starter solenoid

I have a '56 belair with a remote solenoid. The starter grinds as I'm turning the key off. Could it be the solenoid or the starter? I replaced the ignition switch with the same result. Thanx-Terry

Terry i wouldn`t think that the starter would be grinding when turning the key off. Have you or someone else looked and listened to it while someone else turned the key off to try to see whats happening? Terry.
