I want to make my front bench seat power and also want it to fold down flat so that it makes a bed with the back seat. I was looking at a power couch from a GMC conversion van that looks like it may fit but is pretty bulky. Anyone have any ideas on making this happen?

I don't know Shawn, if I knew I was going to get in trouble so much that I would have to sleep in my car I would not do the thing that was getting me in trouble.

Shawn i think that would be a tall order. Even the seat backs that do recline don`t go but 3/4 the way back.

You'd definately want to consider the safety issues here too. You want a seat back strong enough that it doens't fold back in a rear end collision. Many of the bucket seats get pretty tweaked in rear collisions, so make sure you design it so that it supports your weight and holds tight until YOU want to release the latch...and have a party in your car.

If you look at how a stock 55-57 two door bench seat folds forward - with a hinge arm on the outside and a simple pin on the inside - the seat moves in an arc when folding forward. So making it recline correctly means starting over with the seat back mounting pivots.

You might be better off with a seat frame that's already built to do this.
