I am updated my trans for my 55 chevy. I got a 1992 caprice wagon that I took the 700R4 out of as well as the engine and it is only a 305! I took the 700R4 to the trans shop this AM and they are going to go thru it and add some goodie to it. I will keep you posted.

The overdrive trans will change the whole personality of your car. I met a guy at a Graffiti night who had a '54 with 327 and TH400; his friend had a TH700R4 who offered the trans to him. When I showed him my '55 with the TH2004R, he could not see the advantage of overdrive, that he said he could accomplish the same thing with a tall rear end. Then I took him for a ride in the '55 and he was hooked on overdrive. Mark

I too am going with a 700R4 from a turbo350. I would like a 2004R because of the steeper 1st gear. I already have the 700 so I'm going with that!

I went from a TH350 to a TH2004R because it is almost a direct swap. If I had had a TH700R4 I would have used that and cut down the driveline.

Anybody ant to donate a 350 or 400?! LOL
:D
Grandma's--Was the 350 a short/med/long shaft?
I thought about changing straight from glide to t200/700.
The car I just sold had aod--- man I sure did love floating at 80+ with tons of rpm's left--
Just can't make my mind up- I keep telling myself I don't need to go over 70 anyway-just get there fast! LOL

Tripledeuce:
My TH350 was a short shaft out of a '79 Camaro with a 305. The TH2004R is about 1/16" longer than the TH350. I replaced the original iron Powerglide with the TH350, which was the same length as the Powerglide; I just had to replace the yoke with a fine-splined one. After overdrive, I would not go back to a 3-speed automatic. I sold the TH350 on Craigslist to a guy with a Jag XJ6 with Chevy 350 and TH350. Mark (Grandma's '55)

Well, I took the engine and trans out (I will clean and paint the engine compartment) What a mess under the car!! I might be installing a 327 60 over along with the 700R4 what are your thought on the 327? I will try to upload some pictures for you guys. Well, I am not having any luck with the pictures. I will work on that.

I love my 327. When I took the six out of Grandma's '55, I specifically wanted to replace it with a 327 as I have always liked the way they run.

I swapped my th350 long tail for a 700r4 and the results are awesome! You will love the deep 1st gear off the line and the highway rpm's. I tach around 2000 at 65 with 3:70's. Good luck with the swap. Phil...
PS - - got my 700r trans from Phoenix Transmissions in Arizona. Greg was great and anytime I called with questions, they were terriffic.

Well, I went with my 400 engine 30 over which I guess makes it a 406 CID. I just ordered the pistons last night. It looks like I will be turning my crank and using that. I have the entire engine parts painted either with powder coat or POR 15 chevy orange. I painted the inside of the block as well; I can't wait to get back together along with the 700R4. I will keep you updated.

I am getting my crank-pinstons and rods back tomorrow. I had it all balance and the rods resize (there were 2th out of round?) It looks like I will be busy this weekend. Now the next big thing is getting the driveshaft cut down for the 700R4 trans.
I have a 460e trans and a 350 lt1 in a wreaked 96 buick roadmaster. my orginal plan was to put this motor and trans in another project. that project fell through. now i still have the 460e and lt1 motor.
I have a 56 chevy with a good 350 carb. motor and a 350 trans. does anyone know if the 460e (electronic computor controled) trans can be converted cheaply to work without computor on a carbed motor. May shound like a poor idea but I already have the transmission.
