Would anyone have a photo showing how either the original or late model power steering pump would be mounted to a 55 6 cylinder?

Thanks,
Kael

Here is a drawing of how the original is mounted. http://www.trifive.com/garage/55%20Chevy%20Assembly%20Manual/324-4.gif

Don,
Thanks for the quick reply. What year did they go to a separate pump/ generator?

1960 was the first year for a modern PS pump on a 235 six. The brackets (3) and pulleys (3) are EXTREMELY hard to find as a complete set, and pricey when you do find them. There are special head studs, spacers, and other special hardware too. You don't often find all the parts in one shot. And if that's not enough, the crank pulleys are riveted to the balancer from 1955 to 59, so they are very difficult to modify to accept the add-on pulley, it's best to use the complete balancer from a 60-62.

Do you have the stock generator or a newer alternator?

Jalapeno,
I personally am still using the stock generator. I was actually asking this question for someone else. I decided to ask it myself so that I could learn something new as well instead of just giving him various website links.

Then it would be easier to just go with the stock generator/pump uinit.

For my own future reference, would the original setup work with a dual carb intake and split exhaust manifold or headers?

Thanks,

Good question. Since there are different aftermarket exhaust/carb configurations out there, I can't tell you if it fits with one and doesn't with another.

The overall length of the power steering generator/pump unit is 14 1/2 inches. The pump fill spout rises about 3 1/4 inches taller than the gen case, centered about 3 inches from the back of the pump. The gen/pump assembly mounts in almost exactly the same place as a stock manual steering generator, so just take some measurements and see if it will fit.
