I just finished my 1st and last ft. 56 smooth bumber.
1. re-move chrome......................$ 150.00
2. Hammers,blocks,sanding disks,pads,misc....$125.00
3. Beat the living "H" out of the indents,(3 Days)
4. Weld up 6 holes.
5. Grind smooth to level.
6. Build center support brackets...............$25.00
7. Grind and smooth again from over heating on welds,!!!!
8. Return to Chrome shop for rechrome.........$750.00
9. Install back onto my 56
10.Doctors visit for right arm pain..............$250.00
FINISHED- Total Material Costs= $1325.00
Worth it you may ask ?
YES,YES,YES, IT LOOKS GREAT,WILL POST PIC SOON, I JUST LOVE IT.
(NOW FOR THE HOOD)mmmmmmmmmm???

Did you start with a 1-piece bumper? I think it's easier to do with a 3-piece, and you could have sold the 1-piece for enough to cover a lot of the cost. ;)

A $500 smoothie bumper is a steal.
However, I bought the Danchuk 55 smoothie bumper for $600 plus shipping, and I'm very happy with it so far. I have not done a mockup yet - but I have verified basic dimensions.
I'd think that Danchuk would be doing a 56 smoothie too, but I don't have any knowledge on that.

I thought about using a 3 peice bumber but since mine had a dime size rust spot, being the old military picky type guy that I 'am I used mine, it was a lot of work, but well worth it.
Now to find some one in my area(Seattle) to smooth out my hood is another story,thats all thats left to do and my 56 is done!!!!

Like the old fool that I 'am with a $500.00 camera in my truck, I never took one pic of my 'PROJECT SMOOTHIE BUMBER", I wish I would have, I mean to tell you at 61 with a bad neck,and arms, it hurt like hell, but being a stuborn
old fool I did it, now I can go to my grave a happy 56 owner with a 'SMOOTHIE BUMBER", just so my kid can have fun in it,LOL
