Ok all, I have a TH350 that I bought about a year ago. I will eventually get a 700R4 but will use this th350 until I get the money. It is pretty nasty in terms of grime and I want to clean it up to use it until it blows. What do I need to really clean on these?

I use a plastic putty knife to get the heavy stuff off, and then cover all the openings with plastic bags or tape and spray it with Gunk. Hose it off with a pressure washer or garden hose. If you have any tough spots, Some lacquer thinner on a rag will clean them up.

Do what Chevender suggested but take it to a carwash and let it rip. That way you leave the mess there. :D

Ahhh.. Well I was thinking more in terms of the innerds. Should I just drop the pan, change the filter, and seal it up? The dipstick tube was out of it and I have no clue what is on the inside if it.

Eldon if the tube was off then i would drop the pan and go from there. Even if it rained in it it should still be good if you change the filter and add fresh fluid. When i worked in the wrecking yard years back we had a mechanic come in and wanted a trans. He was told the only one available at the time was one that had sat out and had been rained in/on. He said no problem, took it did as i told you and it ran out fine.

You didn't say inside before:eek::rolleyes:

I would follow chevmans suggestions and maybe put a bottle of lucas oil trans treatment in it when your done.:tu

Since you don't know what the fluid has been through, you may also want to consider draining the torque converter of it's fluid also. That way you have mostly all fresh fluid to start with going through your new filter.

No torque converter. I will replace the front and rear seals, drop the pan and clean it out, replace filter, fill with fluid and Lucas treatment and run it. Sound good?

BTW, who has a cheap torque converter for the TH350? Remember this is getting hooked up to a 200HP 265, so it needs to be as stock as possible, if not stock.
Thanks!
