Im just about ready to finish assembling my steering components. Initially I was goign to clean my drag link, pitman arm and idler arm. (Yes I have the Poor mans Power Steering) Then in ECKLERS I noticed they sell "REPRODUCTION" drag link idler arms an pitman arm for $169.99. I called 3x and each time they give me a date that the item is supposed to be in stock and it never is. (Ive heard some interesting stories about these people) Anyways the price seems cheap but does anyone seem to think that these repops (probably from Tiawan) are going to be of poor quality and maybe i should clean up my old parts? I just figured i would spend the $ and take everything to the powdercoater and be done. Any input would be great.

My thought is always that if I already have the part, and it's not damaged, I clean it up and repaint it. If your Idler arm is in good shape, I'd spend the $169 somewhere else. Mine were pretty dirty, but cleaned up nice with a wire brush attachment to the drill, some GUNK engine cleaner, and a couple of beers if I recall correctly. I didn't powder coat mine, but I sprayed them with a rattle can. John

I agree on cleaning it up. No way I'd put an aftermarket steering link on my car. Are you sure they are just selling cleaned up used parts?

If the parts are really built up with grease, apply some Easy-off oven cleaner and sit them in the sun. Re-apply if needed.

Another way is to have the parts hot tanked at an automotive machine shop. You'll get them back squeaky clean.

If your going to have them powder coated, the powder coater will sand blast them anyway. Also, if the new ones come with the bushings installed, you will have to take them out before powder coating. The heat will ruin the bushings.
