How to remove 56 steering column?

How do i get the steering shaft loose from the steering box? i removed all the bolts. Can anyone tell me where it disconnects? I can get the column to slide up and down several inches buti cant get it loose from the box. Any help is appericated.

The steering shaft dosn't come loose from the box with out taking the box apart. You take the box and shaft out as a unit.

cut it and splice it to a new steering column or dissasemble the column and take the steering box out. it's one piece.
