Hi Everyone:

Thanks for all the input. Before I did the first posting on the Free Play problem
I knew for certain the play was in the BOX! The problem I had with CPP is the TEC. person was claiming that these boxes just don't give any issues. If that was a true statement ,then for me, this box was not acceptable. I couldn't believe this new modern technology would not be tight throughout the travel range. Since then the people at CPP had informed me that they have had the odd box problem and they are shipping another box for replacement. I will closely check the new box before I install it. I will possibly take it to a local steering box rebuilder for an inspection before it goes in the car. I will post the progress on this.

CPP sent out another steering box to replace the loose one. I have had it in the car for a few days and it is TIGHT! the car responds beautifully. So if any one else has a problem with free play in a CPP500 14 to1 box, contact the factory
and have them warranty it. Now I can really appreciate this steering box, it has good road feel, excellent return to center, I actually like it better then a few new cars that I have driven that have rack& pinion steering. CPP was good to deal with through this process.

Wow, I need to start checking the news at this site more often! I have one of the first CPP boxes shipped installed in my '56. The change from the old 605 box was dramatic. I posted on the other tri-five forum about how much of an improvement the CPP 500 box was/is. However, there is a small amount of free play with the steering wheel in the nuetral position. I'm going to get some opinions as to what is right or acceptable on this from CPP or others who have done the swap.
Thank you for the heads-up.
