My 56 convert (restored by previous owner) has its belt moulding between the windshield and dash CHROMED -- I'm thinking it should be painted to match the dash color. Want to keep this car absolutely stock! Anyone know how they came from the factory?

I've seen it both ways, but I just looked at some original factory photos and it shows the inside trim that runs horizontally painted, while the 2 vertical pieces are chrome. Not a deffinate answer, but it's the best I can find.

I did some investigation a few years ago, and found that the two side (verticle pieces) were chromed on converts, on my hard top, they were not, ....I liked the chromed ones better....but as for the horizontal I believe they were painted, on the belairs.....don't know if they came both ways on the converts. The previous owner may have chromed to match the sides....IMO I think they should either be all painted or all chromed.

Thanks guys, your input has helped me not worry about it being chromed. It looks good with continuous chrome around the windshield, and until I maybe lose out on a trophy because that trim is not stock,I'm going to keep it that way.
