I replaced the windshield as well as both door glass when I had Grandma's '55 apart for paint and body work. I bought the complete channel/fuzzys/screw kit from Danchuk and used instructions from Eckler's catalog. Glass is nice and tight with no rattles and windows roll up and down beautifully. I redid the wing-window seals while the doors were apart with new Danchuk gaskets and rubber stops. The Danchuk vent seals fit very well, but the windshield and back glass gaskets are a little large. Welcome to all you new guys, I gladly share my collection of tech articles with you guys but when I get reguests for articles in general terms like this one it's kinda hard to guess what model car you're working on and I think it would benifit both you and me if you download the master list from my website below and pick the articles you want by title and date, that way you get exactly what you need and I don't get replies like those were the wrong articles.

08-30-2008, 11:43 AM
Larry and "JOE" your articles are in your mailboxes, as far as a book goes all these past issues of Classic Chevy and whatever they have changed it to now are as far as I know still available from CCI but to duplicate my collection would be very expensive, I have subscribed for the last thirty something years and was able to track down the issues I'd missed over the years and I share these with my friends on tri-5 as if you all lived next door, I would love to be able to profit from the work and time I've put in over the years but to my understanding that would be illegal.

Hey 57viper
I will be replacing the rear glass channel in my 57 BA 2dr sedan.
I recieved the part from Danchuck along with the rubber.
Their instructions say to use weatherstrip adhesive to hold the glass with rubber to the channel but do you also use it to hold the rubber to the glass?
I am hoping your article addresses this, so if you could, please foward me a copy of the article before i ask any other ?
Thanks

Thanks for the quick reply Bob. My name is Jose and I live in Austin, Texas. I have done several frame up restorations in the past (73 Mustang convert, 64 1/2 Mustang, 79 Jeep, etc..). I currently have a 27 Ford Model T Touring Hot Rod which is finished, although, a true hot rod is never finished!!! Anyway, I needed something new to keep me busy and decided I really liked the 55s but due to $ limits and family size (2 daughters), I picked up a 55 4dr, 6cyl, 3spd on column, "not running", 3 weeks ago. I have already got it running and have completely redone the brakes (disc front/stock back). I am now moving onto the complete front steering and suspension while I await my electrical system which is on order. Hope to get on the road asap since I am tired of driving my boring new cars! :)
Merry Christmas to you too! Take care.

My current task is to remove my side windows in my 57 2dr HT Belair with the intentions of having them rechromed, replacing the rubber and whiskers. I need to the HOW and the pitfalls to avoid....and is it possible to save the glass, rather than replace.

Bob,
I registered at this site for my father who is currently restoring his 57 Chevy 2-door Sedan. He is having trouble with the sedan side glass installation and therefore I was wondering if you wouldn't mind sending along the guide information for:
Sedan Side Glass Installation Oct 86

I am not a car guy by any means so if you require further information, I'll have to pass it along to my Dad (who happens to not be a computer guy) :)
Thanks in advance!

Just a general post, whenever an article is requested I send along a copy of the library list just in case someone isn't able to download the one from this site. The reason I do this is simple, not only can't I remember all you guys in most cases I have no idea what kind of car you have let alone if it has a post or not or how many doors it has. To the simple part if you send an e-mail to me with the title and date of the article or articles you want I don't have to guess about anything I simply go to my library files on my trusty Mac and click the ones you want so please follow this simple process and not only will it make my life easier you will get the exact articles you want.
Thanks Guys
Bob

Hello Bob and everyone on tri-five, I'm proud to say that My dad and I are about to restore our first 55. Been waiting a long time to find the right car to make our "Classic Custom." Looks Like I found the right site to get advice and info. seems like a great family of fellow car guys on this forum.
If you can shoot me the tech article for a 55 2dr post? Going to be doing both the 1/4 and door glass, brought a fuzzie kit kit as well, just hope all goes well.... any help would be great.
thanks Bob

OK fellas I will be happy to send the articles you need but to make life easier for all of us please download a copy of the master list then send an e-mail to me with your request by title and date of the article you want. Trifive used to show members e-mail addresses until one guy didn't like it so rather than tell him to omit his address they decided to omit everyone's. If I can't get your e-mail address I can't send articles. I don't read every post of every thread so I will miss 99% of your requests on here. There is only one way this is going to work, E-MAIL not by posting not by PM I can't send articles through tri-5. I am trying to help everyone on tri-5 but I'm afraid it has to be done one way for it to work. Thanks for understanding I hope.

Hi Bob,
Well, it looks like I could use those instructions also as the fur channel didn't turn out to will and I'm scratching my head trying to figure out how the fur channel secures along with the door glass fuzzy. Been too many years since I took it all apart. I saw mention about a screw kit for all the pieces. Anyway like someone said it's time to read some instructions and do it again. Got all the glass in but should re-do the fur channels.
If you would be so kind to send over I would appreciate it.

Been searching online for instructions on how to remove my 55 gasser's side glass, it's a four door, three of the windows are busted and need to come out, I have replacement glass. At the present I have the passenger side front door wind wing unbolted, loose, but still can't figure out how to get it out or how to get it loose enough to pull out the window glass and put in new glass. Haven't even looked at the rear doors yet!
Just found this thread, so if you can pass on any links where I can learn how to do this???
Was convinced I could figure it out once I got into it, but it has frustrated me, it's not immediately obvious!!!
Aloha,
Willy

Hi Lou:
Since you're new to the site I will send a copy of the master list so you know what I have, in turn I need to know what you're working on before I start sending articles out cause I have articles for all models of tri-5s. Second please send your request to my e-mail cause it's easy to miss a post on the forum and I can only send these by e-mail and not through tri-5.com.

before I can think of installing I need to know how to remove the window, Mine is stuck half way down and will not move
Vet, without seeing it, here's the procedure I think will help you...
1. Remove your window crank, door handle and inner door panel
2. You will note there are two access covers (unless someone didn't put them back on last time they were in there, which is sometimes the case...
3. Romove both those access covers...
4. Then remove the screws that hold the window crank assembly to the inside of the door (there are 3 or 4 phillips head screws around the crank stem)
5. Once those are removed, you should be able to move the glass up where you can drop that crank assembly out the bottom access hole.
6. Then, while looking through the rear access hole, you'll note there is a window track that guides the window as it is rolled up and down, that also has a phillips screw holding the bottom of that assembly and remove that screw
7. Now you have to remove all the screws holding the window wing and window wing track.
8. Once you have the window wing track removed, you should be able to slide the side glass forward enough to pull it out of the top side of the door.
9. The rear glas also comes out the top by removning the track guide at the front of the glass.
10. This must also be accessed by removing the inner access panels
Hope this helps you think it through, I'm not far from you (Porter) so if you get in a pinch, let me know and I'll drop by some evening and help you with it. :shakehands:
Take care and :anim_25: with it!!!! BDR...
