Hey guys Thank you very much for all your help. Now im haveing a problem with the 605 pump leaking fluid out of the top seal. The pump has a small hole to remove the o ring that holds the top cap in place. I have fluid leaking out of this hole and around the cap or seal? It seems to me that the cap is not seating down far enough to block this hole and seal the pump. If there is any thing you can do to help I thank you in advance.

When does this happen? Is the fluid leaking when it is idling or when you apply pressure from turning the wheel?
It sounds like you have too much fluid in the pump reservoir. Check the fluid level when cold and make sure it is in the proper fill range.
If you are turning the wheel without the engine runnning, you will have fluid spit out of the pump through the vent hole.

605 pump leaking fluid
No such thing as a 605 PUMP, do you mean the 605 GEAR? If so, the 605 gear round cap is notorious for leakage in this area, the housing has burrs even when new and the o-ring does not seal the cap properly. The only way to permanently stop the leak is to remove the burrs and install a new o-ring.
The correct method for checking PS fluid is when HOT, at idle, wheels straight.
No fluid should escape the pump when turning the wheels, hot or cold, engine running or not.

Thank you for your quick response guys. I am trying to help my father with a restoration. We have had a heck of a time with this conversion. So if I understand you guys correctly, the gear box is vented and will only leak if it is over filled with fluid? I had the understanding the gear box had to be air tight? I thought the pin hole on the top of the gear box was to remove the O ring that holds the cap in place? Not a vent for the air? Thank you for all your help, Culprit

We have a terminology problem here.
You apparently called the steering box a "pump", and you called the steel snap ring that holds the top cover on the 605 box an "o-ring". And then the replies took off. Not blaming you or anyone who replied, just trying to sort things out.
The power steering pump is on the front of the engine and it has a vented cap. The steering box is closed and is supposed to be sealed up.
The real confusion comes over the "snap ring" and "o-ring". The steel snap ring that you can see doesn't seal anything, it just holds the cap in the box. The hole in the side of the housing for removing the snap ring is just for that. And nothing else. NO oil should be there, and no air venting either.
When you take the snap ring off and remove the top cover, you will find a rubber o-ring that is supposed to seal the top cover. No oil should make it past this rubber o-ring.
Now, go back and read what Jalapeno said about the rubber o-ring and the cover. Dealing with that as he described should fix your problem.
And yes these do have a tendency to leak.

Sorry about the confusion, it is the metal o-ring im having problems with so i will remove the cap and check the rubber o ring. Thanks again.:tu We could not have done these things without your help.
