View Full Version : Collision in the shop
Spare time collided with spare parts and this happened...
(pay no attention to the old paint and rust)

8N Ford Tractor with GM HEI ignition...
I was bored...
Tight fit and had to re-engineer some of the internal organs of the distributor but it runs good...

And just think, I was seriously thinking about building a Cobra replica. I even have a F@rd 302 block in my garage that I was going to have rebuilt. I have to say that it feels really strange having a F@rd block.... I have always been a Chevy guy... So this strange, bizzare, sick feeling is what it feels like to kiss a cousin... LOL!! :D
Want to put a Chevy distributor in that F@rd 302?? :p

Hmmm... I could do that... But I don't want to ruin a perfectly good Chevy distributor. :D I need to sell it and put money towards a '55. That would be a good use for it.
As for the tractor, I bet it runs much better with that GM HEI on it! What did you do to make it work? I must say that is pretty ingenious!

Took a 4 cylinder distributor and turned it down on a lathe so it would fit in the tractor. then used the shaft out of a V8 distributor (needed the extra length) cut it to the right length, turned the end down to fit the 8N gear, completely disassembled the centrifugal advance and reinstalled it to work counterclockwise.

Just thought, "Hey this might work" and started measuring and cutting, then ran into the CCW rotation thing so I pressed out all the parts and pins turned it all upside down and put it back together... the whole advance mechanism had to come off the shaft and be flipped ....
