Hi Everyone,
I'm just wondering if the 1955 Nomad has the same rear suspension as a 55 Hardtop? I have just bought a 55 nomad and am waiting for it to be shipped home to Australia. I have the opportunity to purchase an air ride air bag suspension for it which is for a 55 hardtop for nearly half the normal price. If it would suit my nomad as well I will get it.
Thanks for the help!!

Gaz, as far as the air ride stuff goes, it should be fine for any 55 full size passenger car.

If I am not mistaken the only difference between the two is the nomads and wagons used a five leaf leaf spring and the regular passenger cars used four, the air bag stuff should work fine

The biggest difference is not the frame or the suspention but what is around it. All the wagons have a gas tank that hugs the rear pretty close. As long as nothing on the air bag set up gets near the tank you should be fine.

I believe Henrys57 has an airbag setup on his wagon. Check him out.

My home made system retains two leafs on each side with the bags in front and shocks to the rear of the diff, just enough room. As long as the air bags are in front of the diff there should be no problems, good day, Henry.

Another Nomad on it's way down under - good news for us Aussie nomaders.
As the others have said, the suspension is the same as other models, just be careful with the stock wagon tank. Glen Rulach is an agent for Air Ride here has air ride on his 57 wagon. Tony Anastasio does a lot of his instals and if you run into any difficulties I'm sure Tony could help you out. If you need any Nomad parts let me know, as I've got a few spares.

G'day Des,
Thanks for the welcome mate.
Glad to become a member of the aussie nomad owners club. Would have to be one of the best lookin chevy's going around.
Thanks for the advice, I gave air ride a call last week and have decided to use their 4 link setup with shock wave air bags on the rear. They are very helpful with good advice. Is your nomad stock or hot rod? I'm going to convert mine to RHD so I will have a bit more freedom regarding drivetrain, etc.
The nomad I have purchased needs a full resto and is supposedly complete but there are bound to be some parts missing.
Cheers mate.
Regards

Thanks for sending the photos - does look like a big project but there are a lot of replacement panels available now. Where are you located? I can send you info on joining the US Nomad club if you would like to join. I have a big block '56 that has been on the road since 1980 and '55 and '57 both about half done.
