Hey guys.
Why does it seem like most guys prefer a 2 door over a 4 door? I for one like the 4 door better.
Thanks,
Randy

Wanna trade? :D
(just kidding)
I actually do like the 4dr cars on the 57. 55 4dr was ok, but I just don't like the looks of the 56 with 4 doors.
I like the 4dr wagons better than the 2 dr wagons in 57, but the nomad beat both for looks.
The price helps me like them even more.

From a performance stand point the 2 door is lighter. Also sports cars only had 2 doors for years, same for muscle cars. A 4 door was always associated with a family car or old people. Beyond those reasons it's just a matter of taste. I've seen some good looking 4 doors and some that were very fast.

Two doors are just cleaner looking, along with a personal nostalgia thing with me. If I had to take a four door, It would have to be the hard top. Oh and being a 56' as well.

Two door cars when newer were the hot-rod, racing vehicle (not too often you would see a 4 door gasser or circle track car back in the day). 4 door cars were more of a family rig. My dad would say the hardtop is the best.. because when they were new (and he was a young man wanting one), they were the most "sporty sleek" option.. but, well.. I don't like them as much as a 2 door post car...
2 door vs 4 door values certainly reflect how much more money it takes to purchase a 2 door as well.
This said, all of these cars are pretty cool.. 2 door or 4 door. And to those guys who prefer the 4 door, I say "more power to ya..!" :tu

For me, its a 2 door for 57 & for 55 or 56 it would come down to the cleanest car with the lowest price tag. Also for wagons its a 2 door as well.

It’s a 4-door for me. I also love how the chrome trim at the base of the back window flows with the roof line in the sedan. I’m also moved every time someone walks over to the car and fondly reminisces having one “just like that 4-door” in their own neighborhood way back when. But I got to admit that I do love the “deeper” dip on the side of the body near the back window of a 2-door sport coupe.

like the 2doors myself. had a 57 2dr 210 sedan thirty years ago. now, with 3 kids all under 10, i recently got a 55 4 door belaire and i`m tickled to death to say it`s mine. and hey, when i`m cruising down the road i don`t see but two doors anyway. i`m happy!

I'm currently knee deep in a frame off, rotisserie restoration on a 57 4 door sedan, so I better love the more doors, and of course I do!

I prefer red heads, but blondes aren't bad either. Brunettes will do also.

...sounds like me when I was young, I didn't like 4 doors nor vegetables, I prefered the more sporty 2 dr, loved Steak and cute girls... and now, at 54... I like 4 drs, vegetables, would prefer a bologna sandwich over steak and I'd have to deal with my wife if I didn't prefer a good nap over even the thought of a cute girl...(well, aside from the thought of my own cute wife that is...) but I sure can't explain all the rest of that stuff...go figure..:tu:cool:

Well, this is a good poll....
I prefer the 2 door of any car. I like the sportyness and the sleeker look. But in recent years, I have 5 kids all under the age of 12, and the 4 door is a much better family car. I WON'T give up my 150 2 door sedan. I can't wait to see paint on her, but that's some year's away. But if I were to get a hold of any 2 or 4 door 55, 56 or 57 Chevy that I can drive right now, I am not turning it down. I would love to add any body style to my collection. I really want to add a sedan delivery if I can ever afford one, or a Nomad.

Since I have only had my 57, 2 door sedan, I am partial to the 2 doors and the posts. I have (on here) seen some incredible looking 4 doors.

Like alot of folks here, I prefer 2drs., especially sedans. I would absolutely have a 4 dr. to drive regularly while working on my 2dr. I like how the 4dr. windows crank up and down a little faster than the 2drs. :D

I have never heard of anyone converting a two door to a four door. Wonder what that means?
Four doors are family friendly and if that is what you are looking for, great. I like the 2 door HT because of the low profile roof , the rear deck treatment and the way the lines flow so smoothe. Like GM chopped it for you.

I love all of them, every body style but i've always had a soft spot for a '57 4 door sedan. I think i prefer 2 door posts for the 55 and 56, then again i've always wanted to build a nice tubbed and blown 57 post......or maybe a bagged big block '57 delivery:confused: Wow life is to short isn't it, i better get off my butt:)
The only use I ever had for a 4 door was parts was parts car, but I dont like 57 Chevys or 69 Camaros either. Make mine a 55 or 56 2door or a 67 Camaro.

I like em all !
Only reason I have a 2dr post is it was the right price and in the right place at the right time
I definatly would not turn down a 4dr
They are all cool........

the 4 door looks clean untill the second door post comes up, so that's why like the 2 doors.

:):tu When I was younger, '55 business coupes were my 'weapon of choice' in the street rodding scene. That was 39 years ago. I have also had a '55 210 2dr sedan and a '56 210 2dr sedan since that time. All were great cars and I really enjoyed them.
However, 10 years ago whilst looking for a late 1980s Dodge Dakota truck as a daily driver (and future home for a nearly brand new 1998 5.9 litre Dodge truck engine which still languishes in my garage)...... I took a wrong turn (or perhaps it was a right turn, really)...... And ended up at the end of a dead end road over an hour's drive from home...... And there was a '57 Chevy 210 4dr sedan parked in a drive there with a 'For Sale' sign on the windshield and a Canadian license plate on the rear.
Now I have never wanted a '57 Chevy...... Always thought they were too heavy and too 'chromey' and I like the '55 - '56 dash and instrument panel layout much better. Plus, I always felt the 2dr sedans and business coupes were much better looking and they were lighter as well. But it had been a long time since I had seen a cherry, unmolested bone stock '57 and so I knocked on the door and asked the fellow who answered if I might look at the car. I really had no intentions of making him an offer. Just wanted to look her over and refresh my memory.
This old Chevy was kinda like one of those folks you meet and feel as if you've known them all your life after 5 minutes or so. The closer I looked at this car, the more I felt that it should be preserved and driven. So a deal was struck and after working on her out in his drive most of the day, she fired up! Just a brief puff of smoke, lots of rust blown out the tailpipe and then she settled down and ran smooth as you please. This was in 1999 and the car had not been started since 1976. As a matter of fact, she still wears her 1976 Saskatchewan plate out in my garage were she has been 'resting up' for a while.
Yes, I ill-advisedly drove her home that day with a buddy following. No valid current registration nor inspection sticker nor insurance. Blew the dry rotted right front hydraulic brake hose at a red light on the old highway and slid sideways through the intersection on semi-bald dry rotted 1970s bias ply tires at 70 MPH with the left rear brake locked up when I pulled the handbrake. Didn't hit anyone and maintained control, thanks to G-d...... And then continued on, using the hand brake and gearing down when nearing stops ahead.
Made it home OK that day and used to take her around the block every now and then on the hand brake to keep the engine limbered up, but parked her after taking a job that left me no time for hobbies whilst I mulled over whether to rebuild her keeping the mechanicals original or to update them and keep the interiour and exteriour as original as possible. The jury is still out on that one, but I have collected most of what I would need to build a V8 and swap it in along with chassis and drivetrain upgrades to match...... Just in case. Now that I am retired, I believe its time to begin getting the old girl roadworthy once again. She's a driver, not a show car...... And I intend to enjoy driving her for as long as I am able. And then it will be up to my youngest son to give her a good home.
Happy Motoring,
Harry
P.S. >>>> For those such as myself who are into modifying these old cars and driving them on road courses...... That extra 80 lbs. of weight the 4dr sedans pack around just ahead of the rear wheels makes the car better balanced than the lighter 2dr sedans when driving them at the limit in high speed turns. (Don't ask me how I know that.) :confused0006:

I grew up with the mentallity that 2 doors are the way to go. I think they look sleaker I would like to have a four door for a driver. I think four doors look pretty cool with the rear door handle shaved. Bottom line i like 2 door cars, but do not think a 4 door should be a parts car. I have read a couple of threads lately with people comparing 4 doors with wagons.... not the same...

It is a matter of taste, but I love the 4 doors as much as the 2 doors. I just own a 4 door right now.:blowtiedb::tu

4 doors on mine last time I counted.
Love a 4 door. Love a 2 door. I have a 4 door coz its what I found first.
I love it and Im not interested in trading it for a 2 door.

It's primarily a question of taste.
If you drive yours, however, and take friends along who are older, it's a whole lot easier to get in and out of a 4 door.
