When ordering a PRC radiator from streetrod stuff, they give you the option of internal OR external trans cooler... I am running a standard tranny.. so I don't need one. Is the external option, No cooler at all?
anyone know the difference? both the same price...

The external one is just an external one. Just tell Mike you don't need one. I had my cooler internally built. They make very nice stuff. It is the same price if you get a cooler or don't. I don't know why, it just is. You will like that rad. when you get it.

Don't need a cooler with a manual. Getting close to install mine, but its a really nice setup.

It may be smart to order one with the internal cooler if you think some day you might convert to an auto.

I installed a PRC radiator earlier this year. Great product. I agree that if you think you might want an automatic in the future go with the internal one. You can plug the ports and will not be able to tell it is there from the front.
Here is my before and after.

The PRC was one of the best investments I made on the 55. I 'opted for the A/C condenser also. I didn't but should have gotten the internal cooler but every car I have ever built since the 60's has had a 4 speed, so don't think I'm gonna change now.

Was looking to get one of those units myself-looks very nice. Will be adding condenser and trans cooler-which would you suggest internal or external? does one work better?

Are you folks all running dual E-fans with the PRC crossflow?
if so,
Did you buy the fans, shroud, harness along with the radiator?
or can it be had cheaper elsewhere.. ?
BTW, Gary from streetrod stuff e-mailed back to me and said if I opt for a radiator with no cooler, it's $50.00 cheaper :D:tu
I'm with Alan on the standard shift.. :tu to me, it ain't a hotrod if it's not a standard...
I bought two 12" Derale fans.

I used the dual 11" fans from Summit.. Part # BCI-75007.
LOTS of posts I found during a search, using "dual fans"...

According to another thread the temp range for the trans is 160 to 175. I don't understand how the radiator fluid @ 200 degrees can cool the trans fluid.

That's why you need a air to oil cooler if you really want to run it that cold.
On the other hand, a water to oil cooler makes sure it's not TOO cold, which can happen if you had only an air to oil cooler.
Then we could talk about fans, and controlling flow and fans thermostatically. And just after that, things would get out of hand.
