I hope to paint my car this summer, but can't decide what color it should be. I'm partial to dark colors but am better at keeping light colors cleaner. Anyway, I thought I'd post a poll and get some help.

The car is a 57 4 door 150 with Stock trim and slotted aluminum mags.

Thanks for your help!:tu

1957 Chevrolet 150 cars really look great tu-toned but you didn't offer that option on your poll.... A lot of people like black but IMO black paint is best used on Police cars and Funeral coaches.... Good luck with your project.... Later, Dave

Don't make a bit if difference what other folks like. Only one vote on this one. Pick what trips your trigger(except polkadot) and do it. You're the one that's going to live with it. Tons of pics are available in your body style. Just pick the one you want it to look like and do it. Might want to look at some of the tutones (wow). Has been done, but is really hard to make an UGLY trifive. :D Lloyd

Thanks for the replys. I originally thought about Light blue with two tone white on the deck and roof (saw a sweet 55 in Branson like that a few years ago), then thought about burgundy for a while. Lately I've been thinking Black.....alot. My wife thinks Black would look good, but also thinks I might not keep it too clean. She's probably right, I've never really been one to keep things spit shined, but maybe this one would be different.

I went for the Burgundy white two tone on my 150. Though I'm happy with it, I'm with with "do what you like best" group. Really - who's going to look at it every time you open the garage, but you. Most any color looks sharp if it's a quality paint job. Good luck.

well a color is a tuff choice,to me every style car has its color that works for ME, my 57 is 73 vette yellow, for me thats the color for that car, my55 i would not paint yellow, but the guy next to me at a car show might say the opposite, black, blue, red, teal, white, burgandy, green, heck they all look great, on a 57 i like bright colors, on a 55 red or black works for me, and if i ever get a 56 to complete my collection, its gotta be black and white, I have always prefered solid colors on a 55 or 57, but a belair 56 looks great two tone, i would do that 56 black and white, just works for me .:tu anyway i choose yellow for your 57, just my 2 cents, whatever you decide iam sure it will turn heads. rick

Terry....
I have the same exact car which was painted red and white by the previous owner. As soon as I finish everything else, I will re-paint turquoise and white. I had a '56 with the original T&W paint job and I loved it......Bill

Yes Terry, car looks real nice, I didnt cast a vote, but for myself, I would have gone burgandy. But as alot of others replied, its all personal choice. Now, I agree with the other Terry, for my 57 I'm partial to yellow :happy0001:

Hey Terry, Car looks great. I'm partial to Onyx Black on '57 Chevys. That was the original color on mine, so it was a natural choice for the only re- paint she's ever had. I used PPG base coat/clear coat when I painted it 5 years ago, and It still looks like a new paint job. Of course I keep it in a closed garage, covered, and only drive it once or twice a month. The sun is a killer on black paint. Try not to let it set in the sun when it's wet..water spots will ruin your whole day. But, Black is a classy color for 57 Chevys, and when you get all that trim back on she will be a beauty. Cheers, Ben

 Terry, do you really want a 'poll' to pick out the color of your car?

You must have a color or combo colors that you like? Comon man it's your car stand up and make the choice !!!!!!

DITTO !!!!!!! BOTTOM LINE, DO YOU REALLY CARE WHAT OTHERS THINK? Sure, because you don't want to look like a fool. As my Mama said "DO AS YOU PEASE". ONLY ONE OPINION COUNTS AND YOU OWN THAT ONE. Just put it on the road, that's what counts. ENJOY :) Lloyd

PS Not overly thrilled with another red and white 55 2 dr hdt, but was my decision at the time. Whether it is too late to change my mind, ("We'll See"). Lloyd

Terry, are you aware that there are web sites that have a program that puts a tri five body style of your choosing on screen and allows you to change colors, tint the windows, change stance and tire and wheel combo's. I just used it today, as i am currently going through the same multiple choice process with my 56 bel air 2dr post. This web site helped me a lot its not 100 percent, but it gave me a good sence of direction in the color choices. Drop me a note if any one would like the site info.

Ask five people and you are probably gonna have six opinions. You really only have to please one person............the dude behind the wheel. Whatever you decide, I'm sure it will look great.

What you like is what you use, as for me I would go bright red ,such as viper red , no orange red. The tri fives look good in any color but be sure it is what you want.

I tend to like stock colors with two tone combo's on even modified trifives. Especially on a 4 door car. Find something you can live with but that your wife (at least thinks) she chose. This way she is involved... makes the purse straps loosen up a bit when you want that new ZZ502 later on:eek:

There's a fellow out of Cheyenne with a '56 4dr wagon, resto-rod that he reversed the turqoise/ivory tu-tone color combo as normally seen...he used sort of a pearl ivory(looks off-white in pictures) on the body , top is turqoise.
He was at the GoodGuys show last year and the car really stood out, different than most, I'll see if I can find a couple of pictures I took last year of the car and post them.

With a limited vote of colors, I voted burgundy. But I tend to go for the custom colors you don't see on "everyones" car. I always wanted my '57 150 in a 2 tone, and it will be, but I was going to go black and pewter. Guess what, I have see several '55, '56, and '57 Chevies in these colors. I have chosen new colors, but I am not breathing a word until it's time to paint.

In all honesty, paint you car in a color you find amazing and exciting, don't worry about what other people may think. When it comes down to it, all that matters is your opinion and your happiness. Here is another idea, if you have a son or daughter, grandson, granddaughter, favorite neice, nephew, which ever.. ask them their favorite color. It also makes them feel like they had something to do with your build. If you really don't like their color choice, modify it a bit to your liking.

Good luck,
Rick

Any color YOU like. Making my 55 hdt RED & WHITE because I wanted something DIFFERENT and I LIKE IT BEST. Different because I have not seen a 55 R&W hdt in this entire area on the street in at least 15 yrs including the Dallas/FtWorth area. In the last 4 car shows including Goodguys, have only seen 3 in the last year or so. Just make it yours and put it on the street so others can enjoy too. :tu Lloyd

Terry,
I am debating what color to eventually paint my 57. What I have found to be helpful is Google Search "57 Chevy" and depending what site you find, there may be hundreds of pictures of different colored 57 Chevys. Every time I see a potential color that I like, I click copy, download it to a Microsoft power-point file and review my favorites. Then after you have your favorites, sit down with your wife(it seems like you appreciate her opinion) and pick out a winner. Good luck and have fun!

I personally would stay away from black because it is so hard to keep clean, it shows dust and everything else. Check out my 56 BELAIR in tropical turquoise and pearl white.

I'm getting mine ready for paint, it's gonna be either blue or a orange. My suggestion is just pick a color you like and go with it. A new paint job looks good no matter what color................almost lol.

Larkspur blue and indian ivory white

B/MP
06-03-2011, 10:34 AM
It's your choice of course. But.......Black looks good on everything But.......If you've had black cars in the past (I have) they are NEVER clean. You are always wiping, washing, and waxing. If you don't mind that, they look great but if you like to drive em, not the best choice. My Larkspur Blue/ white is so easy on me I'd say any color that is easy maintenance, still looks good would be a great choice. My 57 is nowhere near perfect but hides alot due to the color.

As you will find out though there's somebody with an opinion everywhere. examples......gee, that's nice but I like hardtops. Gee that's nice but......It never fails for some people to feel they must point out every flaw and give advice. My point is make yourself happy and enjoy your car. THAT'S MY ADVICE :sign0020::anim_25:
