I have a 1957 chevy I am putting a 454 in it, I have the side motor mounts that are set 1 inch forward.

Now i am installing a rack and pinion steering like the one pictured below, I was told I have to buy a special oil pan to clear this from friends not the manufactor of the rack and pinion.

So can I use a standard oil pan or do I have to spend 300.00 for a special one.

Thanks for any advice

Hi Otis
You may have to change your oil pan do to the fact you are moving the motor forward. But I don't see why you will have to spend $300.00 . I'm not familiar with your rack installation so it is hard to say. I would mock up the motor and see what clearances you do have and maybe a slight mod to your pan is all you need . Pans can be welded with out leaks. :D
