Well ran the new motor tonight. Ran a 11.60 at 117. Car is a total street car and the combo is way off for the track so this is not too bad. Lower gears and get rid of the edelbrock carbs and I think they will be making me put in a roll bar. Had fun though.

Yup, like I said the combo is all off. Built the motor as street/strip motor to use with my tko600. Now running a th400 for the time being. Not enough gear, not enough torque converter, 3800+ pounds with me in it. The edelbrocks are not helping me either but boy is it docile on the street. Cruises around with no problem. I am thinking about building some holley 750's for it and throwing my set of 5.0 gears in the 9".:confused0006: The motor does not wake up until 4000+. Still has enough power/ tq to be fun at lower rpm's on the street.

So you did bag the tremec/TKO600, I know you are still working out the bugs but does the TH400 give you the shift you were after?

Mid 11"s at 117 is nothing to sneeze at..these cars are heavy and they dont call em shoebox's for nothing. what are your 60ft times like , convertor size and approx stall. are you running any kind of drag shock?

His dad is pulling 10.20s on the motor in a 4000+ lb 56 Wagon.

So is my dad. 10.27 on motor. It's a big block though with 4 link, 5000 stall, set up a lot better. It's more of a race car.

60ft is only 1.7. Stall is a little under 3000 (10"). gears are 4.11, 28x12 goodyear slicks. Homemade caltracs that need adjustment. 90/10 front shocks that are set at who knows what. Motor is built to rev but the edelbrocks do not do too well at upper rpm's. There is a lot of tuning left in the whole car but you run what you got and improve from there. For how well it goes down the street though I am pretty happy so far. I can assure you it will go faster.

The tko is sitting on the shop floor until I decide what to do with it. I sure miss shifting but I don't miss missing shifts. The th400 is brainless to drive but that is not much fun.

Ya, long day. I just saw that. I'm an idiot. :confused0062: Regarding dads et's. He reminds me often. I just remind him that I can actually drive mine comfortably down the road. He sometimes slips up and asks if he can take my car. Either way it's all fun. Always a hotrod getting wrenched on around here.

That's pretty cool that you and your dad are both into cars and drag racing. I think when you get your engine worked out you'll be able to hang in the low 10s with your dad, but that will be about the time he decides to start spraying!

Ya we have fun. Brother has a 67 cutlass with a bbc in it also. Getting ready to run it. Should go high 10's. Uncle has a 73 vette with an all aluminum Donovan 555 in it. Should run 9's but he has yet to run it. I think my car is the slowest in the family.

My kids like cars but wrenching on them is out of the question, don't know where I went wrong. I think your car has a lot more potential than 11.60s, I'd be kicking up the blower boost and trash the Edelbrocks like you already mentioned.

Thats funny because my dad could not get me to touch a car all growing up and into my early twenty's. Eventually I realized I was too cheap to pay someone to do something I could do. Now I enjoy building them almost as much as driving them. My son does not like to work on them either. Hopefully there is hope for your kids and my son.

Nice job on the set-up

I know what you are saying....
Do what I did. Sell it to someone who wants to put-put around.
I pulled the TKO 600 out of my deuce for the same reason and went with a 350 turbo. I never had a hotrod that wasn't stick shift but hated the tremek because of the shifting problems. Now I can race!!!:)
You have a nice working combo.
