I have a 1956 Bel Air Convertible with one piece bumpers. I want to sell these bumpers and install one piece smoothie bumpers. Does anyone know where to buy these "smoothies"? Thanks for the help!

I also have a 56 Bel Air and want smoothy bumpers and I believe CARS INC. , and the BUMPER BOYZ out of Ca. will take yours as partial trade and show up at a big car show and swap meet like Turkey Rod Run down here in Florida with your bumper.

The Bumper Shop in LA, CA is where I got my smoothie bumpers. I use license plate bolts that have LED's in them to light the plate in the rear.

Dave, I have a Nomad bumper on the rear of my 57, took the gards off for looks and got a license plate frame with a light in it. looks good. :anim_16:

I just installed a smoothie bumper on my 55 yesterday! Managed to scratch some paint so now it's off for some touch work up again! Danchuck sells them. I know a guy local here that might give you a break on the price. They retail for $600.

Hi Hal. Any chance of a little more info on installing them and any problems plus some current pics? :) Lloyd

Danchuk sells a nice smoothie front bumper for a 55. It has hidden mounting bolts and comes with all the hardware and brackets to mount it. Their mounting system consists of welded bracket to mount to the frame rails that are very similar to the stock ones. It uses outer braces that are like stock, and the fasteners for them sit in a welded pocket. The fasteners at the outer fender are similar. They get about $600 for it. That's a lot cheaper than most of the welded ones I've. A welded one that sells for $600 is probably not the best quality either.

I've never heard of a similar smoothie for a 56 but they may have one by now.

Other than Rick's reply, there is a lot of misinformation here. Danchuk and Ecklers DO NOT sell smoothie front bumpers for a 56 unless that has changed in the last month.

You can have most chrome shops convert yours, but expect to spend at least a grand for decent quality.

I would not use Bumper Boyz unless quality does not matter to you as I think about 1 in 10 people I've met or spoken to actually are happy with their Bumper Boyz bumpers.

good luck.

They are super easy to install. I do recommend that you tape some cardboard pieces to the body panels, Lower splash panels are what they are called I think, so you don't scratch them like I did. I haven't taken any pic's yet as I am still PO'd about scratching the paint........

Thanks Hal. Really like the look of the one piece front and will probably go that route. 3 piece from Danchuk is 150 per piece plus the bumper guards so the price is about the same. Most everyone says have mine rechromed but that is not a realistic option in my area and the price is out of sight. My 55 looks pretty darn good to me and am very proud of it but it is not what most would consider high $. Do have a couple in it. Anyone that has the 600 Danchuk, let's see them, PLEASE. Danchuk's online catalog shows a 1 piece front bumper for the 56. Doesn't say "smoothie" but what else would a 1 piece be? :confused0006:

Rick_L

If it really exists, it would be a replacement for a stock 1 piece bumper.

A stock 1 piece bumper will have bolt holes, and it will have a bump where the bumper guard goes. A smoothie has no bolt holes that show, and no bump.

They don't make repop smoothies for a 56. Neither Ecklers nor Danchuk has them.

It seems ridiculous to me that they would make a 1-piece "California" 56 bumper and not a smoothie.

I agree... You know how is Chevynut the parts suppliers have always treated the 56's like a "Red headed stepchild" Later, Dave

You could take them to Sherm's Chrome shop in Sac to have your existing bumpers converted to smoothies or you can get them from Danchuks. I found that is was cheaper to order them from Danchucks

1. Who is Sherm? 2. Where is Sac? 3.As stated before, Danchuk and Ecklers do not sell Smoothies for the 1956 Chevrolet... Danchuk and Ecklers do sell Smoothies for 1955 Chevrolets.... Later, Dave

Hal. Had forgotten I asked for pics on the car. Thank you very much. One piece bumber looks PERFECT to me. Entire car looks georgeous and glad everyone got a chance to see it. You built it your way and that is wonderful (not quite sure about no tires on big wheels, will stay with 15's on mine) but yours is in style. Just teasing. Again, thanks Hal. :) Lloyd

Must say one of the best looking chopped, louvered, nosed and decked 55's have seen. JMO

Hi everybody, my first post on the forum.
I'm just a lowly worker here in CAL.

My shop did the smoothies on the 1955 red/biege convertible and Warren Johnson's 1955 cobalt blue nomad that recently had their pictures posted on the thread about the GoodGuys show last weekend in Chicago.

Most smoothies are a piece of cake if one is patient and doesn't rush it but turning that 55 3pc wagon bumper was a chore. Warren appreciated it thankfully.

If I could find the thread, I'd post the link. Maybe someone remembers the thread from last week.

"Do you have a crystal ball?"

Well no, but you never know, the answer MIGHT be posted in the future, lol. Or after 33 posts, it might have been posted previously.

In a way the question is like asking who can do the best paint job or who can build the best engine.
