I got the tail lights out and looked up in there. Any hints for getting out the rusted up, broken cable tensioners??.

The cable tensioners are mounted behind a plate close to where the rear seat back latches onto the side, depending on the model you may have a vying trim piece to remove. The tensioner is basically a tape measure type spring device, good day, Henry.

The cable tensioner are located almost at front of slider glass .As I found with mine there is a secondary access hole further towards back of car that allows hook up of spring to cable. The cable clips into tailgate then pass thru escucton plate into body. there is a roughly 2x2 piece of 1/2 inch felt there for dust. It then tracks around a guide plate where cable ends about end of quarter glass. where secondary access is. From there it easy to take tension off and realese system.I was amazed (just not long ago) one the length of the system. Pistoncan sounds like you and I are roughly same point in rebuild .Keep in touch and let these WAGONS ROCK

Goat,
I just came in from the shop to write that I had found them. LOL The one on the passenger side was broken right at the cable and had apparently retracted in, so I couldn;t figure out where it went.
It wasn;t until I removed a huge mouse nest over the rear wheel housing that I found the rest of the assembly. Once I saw where it went, I noticed the access panel inside. Live and learn.
Yep, I have a long way to go. got the gas tank out and found it and the sending unit were trash. I put some antique guns I have for sale on the internet. hopefully something will sell, so I can buy a new gas tank. I need new shackle bushings and one lower shock mounting stud that I twisted off. Then maybe I can get the thing started. I have been removing all the trim prior to going at the 6 layers of paint with a 36 grit wheel. I still have to order front floor pans and under seat pans. I have the rockers ready to go on but I don;t want to do them till I have the floor pans in too. Good luck with your project
