Could someone with a 1954 and or a 1955
vin/serial tag please send me a picture.
The former owner/restorer lost the original tags and I am trying to find out what the right one looks like for my
1955 pickup Truck.

My research tells me pre 55 they used the engine serial # as the vehicle Identification which was on a serial post id tag.
In 1955 the series 1's were still using the serial # Id
but somewhere in 55 the series 2's were changed to a different tag.

As my truck was a low production # series 2 I believe
my truck still had the old type tag by what the previous
owner/restorer described.
But I have not yet seen what the newer version looked like.

I have clear title to the truck with documentation back 11
years as well as documentation of alteration front end engine etc. So I believe I can get one Reproduced.
Just need to figure out what type I need. :)

Thanks
Brian

I'm not sure what the law is in your state but most states that issue new VIN plates, it is done by the state police. If it isn't done by them then it is against the law. Might want to check with your DMV first. I'm not even sure you can find a company that is legally allowed to repop a VIN plate. I've seen companys that will do body information tags but not VINs. It all has to do with your states laws. Not trying to be a barer of bad news, just hate to see your truck taken from you for illegal VIN plate.

If I remember this correctly you can legally have a new Cowl tag made but the Vin tag is illegal to reproduce...

Thats EXACTLY why I am trying to get a shot of a 55
vin tag as opposed to a cowl or post tag.

So I can figure out if my truck was made before or after
they changed from using serial #s to an actual seperate
vin #

Thanks for the reply's

the last 56 i just sold had a different vin number from the engine number .engine number matched the frame number. all the court house wanted was the title and vin to match when i bought and sold it.
