I call myself a aviation nut, but when was the designation changed? I watched the History Channel the other day and they called it "XS-1". Then I look on the internet and they do about 50% of the time. Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bell_X-1) says it was originally XS-1 then the "S" was droped. Never in my life have ever seen it called XS-1, till now. Any ideas how this designation got lost or appeared all of the sudden?
