56 CHEVY, I CANNOT GET THE STEERING WHEEL ALL THE WAY BACK ON
THE WHEEL SITS ABOUT 1/4 INCH TOO HIGH,CAUSING THE HORN BRUSH NOT TO TOUCH,NO HORN

Dennis sounds like something is not back in the right place. Check to see that the canceling pawl is not hitting on the lower section. And make sure the rod splines aren`t galding up.
Start with these.

The steering wheel may be all the way on the shaft but the steering column is not in the correct location. If the firewall and dash clamps are loosened, the column can be moved up and down. The top of the directional signal houseing should be 1.015" below the TOP of the Shaft SPLINE. I remember this happening on my last 56. I did not come up with a solution, but DON'T take a larger socket and try to beat it on as it will crack the steering wheel.

As Don mentioned, loosen the firewall and dash clamps and then slide the column up towards the wheel to lessen the gap. Don't get too close or you might have some rubbing issues.
