57 Cameo V8 engine color

Detailing the engine bay on a 57 Cameo with 265 V8 and Hydramatic trans.

The engine is currently orange. I have read that the V8 truck engines should be gray.

Which is correct?

Jalapeno, my 57 had a 6-banger in it and it was gray. I'm not sure about the 265 but I have never seen a gray one. JIM. :auto13:

truck motors had cast iron pistons and were painted gray.

I'm probably wrong but I was thinking the sixes were blue, v-8s orange, and GMC's were all gray.

the motors 6 cyl were blue hens the blue flame six and the v8 orange red but the actual compartments ???

I was refering to engine colors, GMC's I thought were gray.

I just finished my 57 Cameo and it also has a 265 V8 and a hydro. After much research and many phone calls I finally found a guy back east that was a judge specifically for Cameo's. He helped me out with many details that have been lost in time. He said that all Chevy truck engines between 55 and 59 were gray and he even sent me documentation to prove it.

I'll dig through my documentation when I get home tomorrow, however, I haven't been able to get an answer on his phone for about a year. They call him Cameo Jake and I believe he is from Ohio somewhere. I'll check it out more in the next few days and get back to you.

All V8's in that era or at least all I remember were Chevy orange. we had a '59 at a Texaco where I worked and it was oranhe.
