Well i have been wanting to buy the Hobart 187 handler welder but have been holding off due to the having to wire a 220v plug for it, which also means i am limited to where i can use it. But lately i have been using my neighbors wire welder that is a 110v unit. It welds good, especially for a very novice welder like me. So now i am thinking of buying the Hobart 140 handler wire welder for the convenience of being able to use it in more places due to the 110v plugging in. I mainly am welding auto seat frames and the occasional square tubing welding.
Any pros and cons from the experienced guys before i lay out my money for one?

I have the Lincoln model 110 (?), and am quite satisfied with it. It welds up to a quarter inch in thickness material.

It's got a 20% duty cycle which is good. Welds up to 1/4" plating...........
The only thing I do not like is that it only has 4 output voltage settings. That makes it hard to tweak the voltage when you need something in between the 4 settings. I usually end up in between the letters.
I would buy a welder with continuous voltage control. I got my Lincoln 140C for under $600. I also know there are alot more places to get my welder worked on (never needed it worked on but...). I'm not sure about have a Hobart worked on though I believe they are owned by Miller.

I have the Lincoln 135+, w/ the infinite heat & speed dials.
I have it sitting on top of the 250 mig, sharing the same bottle of gas. Can't remember last time the big welder was plugged in!:D
The entire 55 project has been done w/ the 135+, and .023 wire.

I have the Hobart 110v but it is a couple of years old. I think it is the Handler 125 and I bought it online from Sears. I have added the mig conversion kit since purchasing it without the regulator etc. I am very pleased with it. I can weld unbelievably thin metal with it without blowing holes. I learned to weld with a stick welder about 30 years ago and wow, what a difference. I would definitely recommend the Hobart. I think that you would be satisfied Terry. It is a very good all-around welder.
