I COULD USE SOME HELP,JUST INSTALLED POWER WINDOWS IN THE MAD AND WHEN I RAISE THEM THEY GO UP ABOUT 3" HIGHER THAN THE VENT WINDOW. ANY IDEAS HOW I CAN STOP THEM FROM GOING UP THAT FAR. THANKS,RON

It sounds to me like you have the wrong regulators.

If you cannot get a resolve by adjusting the mechanism then an unorthodox method may be to weld up the last tooth or more on the quadrant which will stop it from going further. Most quadrants have an uncut area(no teeth) at both ends of it, good day.

Nomad7 - Three inches above the vent window is a lot. Are these original or aftermarket regulators you're using? Are the two Window Stops in place and adjusted? There is the large rubber pad at the bottom that acts as the lower 'stop' but the only limiting item I can think of at the top are those two adjustable rubber pad covered stops.

Thanks Mike, I took this car apart 10 years ago and its hard to remember where everything goes.I saw 4 plates with adjustingrods and could not figure where they belonged until I read your comments.I think they go into the top inside panel , one set of holes are flat and the ones in the front are lifted up on a angle . do you know if that is right.
It sure would be nice to see a proper picture. Thanks again, RON

Hey Ron, don't feel bad, 10 years is a long time. If I took something apart 10 'days' ago, I'd have to refer to the manual to figure it out.
Yes, that's the rough location for the upper window stops, two per door and they attach to the inner sheathing at the top. If you have the '56 Shop Manual Supplement, check out figure 21 on page 1-16. Not a great pic but it should help. It's been a while since I had my door panels off but I sorta remember both stop attachment points to be a bit slanted but just guessing.
I'll try to take a pic of my setup tomorrow but not sure how clear it will come out.

It looks to me that you may have hardtop regulators instead of sedan/nomad ones. The hardtop ones have a few extra teeth which would make the window go higher than it is supposed to. Although they have adjustable stops on the doors the regulators are designed to raise the window just go up to the top of the vent window frame. What you have there is way past that. Another possible problem is you've got the regulators reversed (ie. right regulator in the left door).

Ron, this pic isn't real sharp but the view is looking forward from the back of the drivers door and shows the rear upper window stop.
