Has anyone had experience with the Mcgaughy's front disk brake conversion kit?
I'm not asking for recommendations (yet) on alternative kits. The parts vendor I like to deal with sells the Mcgaughy's kit so I'm interested to know about that kit.
Thanks for any input.

The only negative I have heard is loss of turning radius. If you grind a bit off the steering stop it takes care of the problem.

I didn't purchase the "kit" so I cannot comment on the brakes. I have McGaughys 2" drop spindles on my '55. I did grind down the steering stops. Other than they widen the track width 3/8" I like 'em.

I have their 2" drop and their front disc kit and booster. Ground the stops, works good for me. Stu55

A fellow club member did the Mcgaughy's conversion and had major trouble with parts wearing out quickly, he ended up replacing the whole setup with a different brand and has had no further problems, I went the junk yard route according to the CCI tech articles many years ago and not only was it way less expensive it works flawlessly, if you're interested in these articles shoot me an e-mail and I'll send them out.

I installed the McGaughy's disc kit for stock spindles, which came with everything from rubber hoses forward. The discs stop so well I decided not to install a power booster. The disc brakes have been on for over two years and still working great. All I had to do extra was drill another cotter-pin hole in the spindles for the wheel-bearing adjusting nuts. Thanks for the tip on grinding off the stops as I could use some more turning radius. Mark

Does anyone have any pics on the grinding aspect? I have the 2" dropped kit, but have not driven the car yet.

There are much better kits on the market today. The spindles move the wheels outwards by ~3/4"" per side and they use the small GM metric calipers and rotors. tdi
By the way, a McGaughy person at SEMA back in 2005 told me they were focusing on suspension parts for newer trucks, and they had no plans to enhance their 55-57 parts line-up. So, I assume their 55-57 spindles are the same ones they sold 10 years ago.

I bought a kit with zero offset and big calipers. Haven't installed yet. mgchevy makes and sells them online for about $400 for the complete set up.

I'd love to get a copy of those articles as well, I was thinking about going the Mcgaughy's route but now I'm thinking not. Any info on 55 front disc brakes or drop spindles is appreciated. Thanks,

I used the Danchuk supplied kit and it all worked so well! Now the car stops whereas before with the standard set up it was positively dangerous!
Is this the McGoughy kit with extras? I got the 9" servo unit and proportioning valve kit as well. I just can't change to dropped spindles. I assume this is due to the mounting brackets for the brakes? Are these available separately, for retrofit?
