View Full Version : Nomad Gas Tank

Water pump went away on my 55 Nomad last Friday night. Had to have AAA get it home.
Much discussion with the AAA driver about hauling it up backwards on the ramp truck, be careful as the gas tank is close to where you want to wrap straps around the rear end...bottom line the tank got nicked and I have a leaker.
For those of you who have done it, does that tank come out easily, or is it a horror show as I have been told.
Thanks....

Its not as bad as described. Of coarse a stuborn bolt can make any job difficult
Jack the car up about 3-4 ft off the ground, place jack stands.
Put floor jack under pumpkin.
Jack up enough to take off pressure on shocks.
Remove lower shock bolts and free up shocks.
Remove rear shackles.
Drop down pumpkin
disconnect fuel sending unit and fuel line.
remove strap carriage bolts and tank will fall out.
In my case, I had to break the strap carriage bolts as they were rusted solid. Hardware store carriage bolts worked fine as replacements.

Is the rear floor/gas tank/tire well on a nomad the same as the other wagons?
