I have received two voice mails on my home phone asking me to go to our local Chevrolet dealer and pick up a trophy I had won at the Corvette Club Show two weeks ago... The caller said I had won 2nd place for the trifive class...The local Chevrolet dealer is a major sponsor for the show... Fine and dandy... Yes I did pre-register for the show to make sure they would have a nice FATBOY sized t-shirt for me strut around in:) The show is held on the top floor of a parking ramp in a mall parking lot... The day of the show it was raining and more rain was forcast so I left the clean Belair in the dry garage and Wifey and I mini-vaned it to the show... I collected my goodie bag with my new t-shirt and went on the poker walk that is held in the enclosed mall... No luck there so I said good bye, sorry it rained, see you next year and we went home... Would you go out to the Chevy dealer and claim the trophy even though your car wasn't there or would you call somebody from the Corvette Club and tell them thanks but no thanks I don't want a throphy that I didn't really earn... I have never been too caught up in the whole trophy thing any how... Later, Dave

There is another way to look at it. Your car is so awesome that it did NOT even need to be there to win! :sign0020:

Was there only two tri-fives entered?? One showed up, so you were the automatic runner up??
I voted say no thanks, but if they already made up the trophy's and you aren't taking away from someone that actually showed, I'd change it to:
Pick it up, attach some kind of disclaimer to the trophy that say's "I DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TO SHOW UP TO WIN THIS ONE" then proudly put it on your mantle. ;) Would be a great conversation piece. ;)

I would expect nothing less from the Corvette crowd Dave. Wait till the next cruise night that McGrath has and pick it up then. You can give it to me as I know someone in Belvidere that gives un-wanted trophies to special needs kids when they hold there sports event.
Or not if you don't feel like messing with it.

I see your point. You were pre registered... but if your car didn't attend the event then. I would say no trophy.

Why would anyone want a trophy when the car was not even there and has absolutely no meaning? Lloyd
Just noticed it was for 2nd place. That is EVEN WORSE.

I ran into two other trifive owners while doing the poker walk... One had his car in the shop and I never talked to the third guy to know if his car was there... The Corvette Club here is made up of a real nice bunch of people and their show raises a lot of money for several charities:D Hopefully it won't rain next year and they will have lots of deserving cars to win trophys:cool0010: Later, Dave

Dave. Please understand I meant no disrespect to you or the club and it's intents. Just don't understand why a trophy would mean anything to anyone under the circumstances. The fact it was a Charity Event is very noble and I applaude them. I'd let them save it for next year. Lloyd

No disrespect taken Lloyd... I intend to do just what you said and ask them to use the trophy next year... Later, Dave

Being a VP of a car club and always ordering, engraving and passing out trophies I say go and have a talk with them. If they still want you to have it (and I think they will because they certainly dont want it anymore!), take it and, as mentioned before, it would be a heck of a conversation piece. It wont be your last trophy but would probably be the most interesting trophy you will ever get.

very good question. i say no trophy.

Hi, Once I went to a big event that classify juged & no-juged. My car was a notjuged & I did win a trophy. I pick the trophy and ask why but nobody could tell except a spectator to says my '57 was the best looking car in that class anyway. I am not a trophy ' guy but it is always pleasant to get one.
In your case, I would not pickup unless you really wish to have it. 20 years later, I remember I got this one by car' absent to the show...
Have fun.

thanks for standing up for deserving people Dave, This is a tough crowd. We've raised a lot of money for spinal bif and shriners hospitals for kids at Corvette shows over the years. Most people at all car shows are great people and then you have the few who just can't help it.
