Just put a ZZ4 350 with TPI in my 55. 286 miles.noticed the temp climbs fast to 230 degrees and stays there. I'm using a 195 thermostat Have a heavy duty radiator with pusher fan in front of the radiator. Radiator is in V-8 position.

Is it an electric gauge or direct reading? Senders can vary in thier readings. I read a article where they suggested that if you were going to run an electric fan alone to use a sucker.

I would suggest letting it warm up at idle with the radiator cap off. In the neck of the radiator put a meat thermometer other temp measuring devise. I even have one (temp probe) for my Fluke electrical meter. That way you can at least see if the water temp is consistent with what your gauge says.
