new shroud

[Petmils 1957 4DR Belair]

I'm going to install my new shroud on my 57 chev v8. It says I have to take the upper and lower rad hose off. Plus the belts and fan, and maybe the tranny cooler. Plus lossen the rad. How did you guys do it why the fan and belt i thought I could just slip it in and wiggle it a bit etc. Easier said then done.

There is not enough room between the fan and the radiator to "wiggle" it in. Having installed several shrouds on 55-57 Chevies I have been there. You will have to remove the fan and the top hose. You should be able to leave the lower hose on. Taking the belts off make it easier to get the fan bolts back in since the belt tension will cause the pulley to go off on an angle once the fan is removed. You will also have to loosen the radiator anyway to fit the shroud between it and the core support.

As Bruce said... you will need to remove your fan. There isn't enough room to wiggle it in there. If you try to you will be taking a chance of damaging your core of your radiator. I suggest to go ahead and do as the direction say. In this case it is safer to remove the necessary components and do it right instead of trying to find a short cut. JMO

Thanks for all the info guys. I will do as I am told. Strip it right down. Probably the best way. I'm not good with liqiuds I'm sloppy.

With regards to the tranny cooler lines, can I just stuff something in them to stop the fluid form coming out or is it such a small amount is it best to just let it drain. Another Liqiud ***.

Peter....As long as you don't start up the car, a miniscule amount of fluid will drip out.:) Good luck, buddy.

Peter, Assuming you have the stock cooler in the lower rad tank you should not have to disconnect the trans lines unless you are pulling the radiator out. The lower hose can also stay connected. The lines and lower hose stay under the bottom of the shroud and should not be in your way.

Thanks Bruce. So by loosening all 3 nuts on each side of the rad i can then wiggle the shroud in. I will let everyone know how this rookie does...
