About 15 or 20 years ago I saw the last 30 minutes of a movie where a younger guy who was dating a cops daughter ended up having a drag race with the cop. Either the cop or the kid was driving a 1956 Chevy (I think it was a '56.) and I think it had a skull flashing on the dashboard. It's been a while and I only saw this once. Does this movie sound familiar to anyone and if so do you know the name of the movie?

Thanks!

The movie theater would have been burned down if anything had happened to the 57. Remember what happened to Tim Allen with his 55 Nomad :sign0020::sign0020:

A legendary movie made over here in Australia in 1982 was called "Runing on Empty", and I think it was released in America as "Fast Lane Fever" featuring a 57 coupe.

Dean-it wasnt a coupe! just a ratty old more-door that had had the rear doors bondoed (bogged-up) for the movie. In the flesh it looked totally out of proportion with the short front doors!

It looked fine to me in the movie, not out of proportion.

The new series "Vegas" about the ***** and the rancher turned Sheriff who brought them under control in Las Vegas in the early '60's has a lot of of old '50's/early '60's cars shown in various scenes including tri-fives and early Corvettes. Two weeks ago there was a scene in a housing area and behind the actors you could see a '57 convert and '57-58? Corvette sitting in the driveways. Also you will spot a lot of Fords, Chryslers, Lincolns and Caddy's, Chevy's as well as various models of pickups and trucks sitting on the streets. The main character drives a white late '50's/early 60's Dodge pickup.

"Return to Macon County" After the sheriff shoots out the rear quarter window on their 57 2 door hardtop they canibalize a 57 convert sitting along the road for parts. Thanks to the magic of movies it actually fits.

and my favorite on The Brady Bunch when Greg buys his first car a derelict 56 convert. "Nothing you can't fix with a screwdriver"

i love seeing movies with them in em, but it pains me to see the tri-fives in movies being abused! :'( ... just the other day my daughter and i were watching some movie called Star Kid from like the the 90's and several scenes and fight scenes they were in a junk yard and they were just tearing up, throwing, trashing, crushing and mangling these poor beautiful cars, Aack! it hurt to watch :sad0049:

The player was Ernie Davis, Some of the scenes for that film, that were filmed here in Syracuse with local car clubs cars, didnt even make it to the film they had all the guys come out with their cars for background scenes, I was working at the time and was unable to participate, they did put on a nice spread at the local Sheraton for all the car owners.

That car didnt have short doors. It had doors that where made longer and I can tell you for a fact that it now has two door doors and also rear quarters and is being rebuilt.

wow this is an old thread

Val,(the owner) is actually a member on here and as 1956 Sedan Delivery quite rightly points out it does indeed have the 2dr doors and is being rebuilt
(Val sent me some photo's of it a while back but I can't find them)

regardless it looked so wicked in the movie who cares if it was a bucket of bondo ... the TLB/Grafitti 55's and the AG 32 were not pretty cars up close either , still look good in the movies though
Heck my car looks ok in photos but up close ....oh dear !

The Tales From the Crypt that had the '57 in it starred Brad Pitt as the young punk racer with a yellow Chevelle.

The '56 in Roadracers looks like it actually a hardtop with the roof cut off. Look at the top of the windshield frame.

Beach Blanket Bingo had a customized '56 convertible.
Mermaids had a '57 4 door wagon in it...pink in color.
There are dozens of others.

I was flipping through channels late last night and came across an old Jimmy Buffet music video on CMTV. The video was of Buffets song "Ragtop Day", released in the '80's on MTV. It featured Buffet cruising around and singing the song in Key West and on A1A driving a '56 Chevy convertible...I'd forgotten the video and haven't seen it since the '80's.
