I see 8" DD bake boosters for prices all over the board......From a low of $69.99 in chrome with 10 year warranty from Skip White http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/8-DUAL-UNIVERSAL-CHROME-BRAKE-BOOSTER-8000-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem4cf4177ff0QQitemZ33051 2695280QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccesso ries to a high of $179 from CPP http://www.classicperform.com/Store/Brake_Boosters/8DSRB.htm Is there really any difference in quality or this another instance of "you get what you pay for".

I have had several of the after market ones, although not a CPP all broke after awhile. I do have a big cam and 4 weel brakes so I think that may have helped kill them. I ended up using a booster from a 2001 camaro and that seems to work well so far. I am not sure if the after market has the same quality as the OEM s. Just my experience
Joe:wavey:
I got mine from a Danchuk dealer at the Pigeon Forge show last year, 199.00...= booster, master cylinder and mounting stuff.

David my chromed 8" dual diaphram one came from CPP via ebay. It was less than 100.00 the best i remember. Only thing bad about it was no rubber sleeve was included for the pushrod.

Terry....Found your chrome booster on ebay....Seems odd that the chrome is actually $10 cheaper than the cad plated.....See link:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280585288204&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT Looks like the best deal going for a quality booster.

Looks like a nice booster David. I got mine in a diskbrake package from Tom's Classic. It's a 7 inch single. Anybody used it and how did it work. Haven't installed mine yet. Jim

Chrome for less than zinc plated??? (They aren't cad plated.) You know where it comes from.
Some of the non-chrome ones are Bendix brand, made in Brazil. Probably OK, but can't say for sure.
Big cams and low vacuum don't make a booster fail prematurely. Bad material for the diaphragm and parts that aren't precisely made do.
I'm not sure there's a pat answer for where to get a quality booster.

Rick....Do you know which ones are made by Bendix?
Also, found some dual 9" made by Delco and Bendix at NAPA:http://www.napaonline.com/Search/Results.aspx?Ntt=brake%20booster&Ntk=Keyword&Nty=1&N=0 Would work for a sbc with short valve covers.....Not a bad price IMHO.

"Rick....Do you know which ones are made by Bendix?"
The ones I know about say "Bendix" on them.
How's that for a lame answer?

A good source for the 8D booster from us is on the Ebay link you see above. like any of our boosters they carry our lifetime warranty. We also offer them with the correct brackets for the 55-57 cars. All Our boosters (most boosters in general) require a minimum vaccuum pull of 18" at idle to function correctly. This requirement is a must with a new booster!

Can't remember where I got mine now, but I started out with a 7 inch dual with MC kit and would have to stand on the pedal to stop.
I was pulling the engine a couple years ago and decided to upgrade to an 8" while the engine was out.
I posted the pics of all I was doing and someone pointed out a line lock mounted above the MC. It was like that when I bought it and didn't even think about it being too high.
I replumbed the whole front braking system, and moved that line lock down low and it works great now.
So, I don't really know if the 8 incher did it or moving the line lock.
Don't really care. The 7 incher was the cad plated or whatever that yellow color is, and the new one is chrome. So, I'm good.
I do remember that I got it off Ebay and it was under 100 bucks.
As I bought the car:

With the 7 inch:
Note it has two line locks plumbed in but not wired up.

Yes...!!!better than I expected for a 8" booster. It's not to sensitive and not where you have to stand on the pedal to stop, just right for me.

I just got a 8" dual for 175.00 shipped from buy911 on ebay. Buy911 has some really good deals on brake stuff for our cars. I got the Booster, master, combo valve, and a nice rubber boot to seal the firewall. Everything but the fluid to install. Its a ccp part came very well boxed looks like a really nice setup. And the price was great, hope it work as well as it looks.

I bought mine from Danchuk with discs, pads, proportioning valve, pipe, etc to complete the job; still running std drums on the back.
It's a 9" unit, but I bought it 6 years ago! Not failed yet, solid pedal and fantastic brakes! Very pleased with the set up.
Part number 2097

I need to put a booster on my 55. Will one of the USA ones work for my right hooker? I have camaro discs with single piston corvette calipers and and stock rear end disc brakes. Whats involved in the swap or do they bolt straight on? I had a mate telling me that i need to change the pedal position?

Most only require drilling another hole in the pedal 1" lower than the original hole. Should be an easy install, even on the wrong side. :D

The lower 3/8 hole 1" lower only has to be drilled, when you use angle brackets to mount the booster.

Was talking to a guy at a show on the weekend just gone, and he has a VL commodore V8 booster that he was recommending. But that might not work with the drum rears though.
He also had the VT discs on the front and VN (I think) discs on the rear.

Soo..... I got a booster 9"? Single with a master cylinder and and prop valve from the swap meet. It also has an angle bracket, so I guess I'll be drilling the hole and running some new lines soon. Thanks for your help guys.
