used in American Grafitti? It's hard for me to tell. Looks like Matador Red, but then maybe not . . . Sierra Gold????

Thanks so much.

Thanks. I kinda thought it was Sierra Gold.

One more question . . . what is the most popular blue color on the Bel Air? It looks like turquoise, but it's not. I'm calling it Larkspur Blue with India Ivory on the top, but perhaps it's really Harbor Blue.

This looks more like Harbor Blue to me, but whoever posted the photo is calling it Larkspur Blue.

Sorry for the stupid questions.

Why do you say turquoise is not the most popular color blue? I think it was.
The link you posted of the Sport Sedan is India Ivory and Tropical turquoise it shows blue sometimes,
Here is another pic of the same car.

Angelo,
I don't know but I think it is turquoise looking blue. Here is a pic of Don's car and it is turquoise but looks the same to me in this pic.

Jim '57:

I meant the color looks like turquoise but the technical color wasn't called that. Here's the link I'm using to help me figure out what color blue to call my fiction car (for anyone who doesn't know--I'm a writer writing about a 1957 Chevy and I don't want to get it wrong.)

http://57classicchevy.com/body-colors.html

So in my uneducated eye, I'd say I only have two choices for a blue car: Harbor Blue and Larkspur Blue. But the photo you have posted is the color I want my fictional car to be. What is the factory color called?

Thanks. And I mean no disrespect to anyone here. I don't know about Bel Airs the way you folks do. But if I sell this book, then I can buy a sweet '57.

Okay, so my bad.

Jim '57, You did say tropical turquoise. You can see from the 57classicchevy link I put up that tropical turquoise looks green. Thus my confusion.

So now--would you guys say that tropical turquoise was more popular than Larkspur blue?

Thanks so very much.

I may open a big debate here but i think that out of that general blue/ green tint color spectrum that turquoise was and possibly still is one of if not the most recognized/ popular colors ever especialy with an india ivory on a 57 chevy.

Ratpackin,

I had that color chart which is why I was confused with the tone of the turquoise. Looks green to me. I thank you for posting and I thank others for their comments. This is a great site and I'm enjoying it.

It looks like the Sierra Gold 57 shares a license plate with a few other cars in the movie. Those yellow and black PRC 596 plates sure got around.

Here is a different '57 with a broken out front emblem and rubber bumper bullets.

And Laurie's Edsel.

Both color combos were popular and easy to live with... If I had to choose one I would vote for the Tropical Turquoise/India Ivory combo:tu Later, Dave

Wow Jim! That pic was before I had the bumpers re-chromed. Thanks for the post on it though.

I like this one better.

Tropical turquoise doesn't look as green as that link suggests. It has a touch of green in it but it looks more blue to my eye. Larkspur blue is, well like a light blue larkspur flower I suppose.

It looks like turquoise, but it's not.
Here in Iowa we would call that car Tropical Turquoise / India Ivory

Maybe its just my monitor but those colors look nothing at all like the original colors. The Topical Turquoise, Canyon Coral and Dusk Pearl are especially bad.

Both color combos were popular and easy to live with... If I had to choose one I would vote for the Tropical Turquoise/India Ivory combo

I like the Tropical Turquoise too, thats what my 2 door hardtop is, but boy there sure is alot of them. If I had my pick I'd go with the Larkspur Blue just for something different. As for me tho I don't get to pick, its gotta be whatever the cowl tag says. :)

Good Eye! Thats funny :sign0020:

My 57 is the twin to yours, except I have Cragars.
I Love that color combo, and so does everyone that sees the car.
It actually gets more attention than my restored 65 Corvette convt.
