Just installed some vent/wing window weatherstripping. used the Danchuck kit and the "U" shaped rubber is apparently too thick. had to work to get it installed correctly, in the grooves of the frame, but once in, the window will not fully close unless you push on it. I'm afraid that this will eventually break the locks if i attempt to close using the handle.

any recommendations on rubber weatherstripping that works better than the stuff from Danchuck?

had the same problem, the Danchuk seal did not fit at all because it did not match the OEM one I pulled off.

Danchuk VS OEM. you can see how the Danchuk one as too much grove cut in it and it creates a gap when installed (I tired some glue, you can see it in the Danchuk one)

I got a set from soffseal and it fit in the frame much better.

I still could not close the vent all the way and latch it until I reused the OEM strait seal.

I had the exact same problem when I did mine, poss. a bit worse, lousy to soft rubber but I'm not re-doing it now. I'm leaving my vent window locked. Everyone says T & N rubber is the best but they are a year behind.

I have used the Danchuk kit and have had no problems. I doubt that any of the seals will go in without some effort. Use alot of soapy water and take your time, you will do fine. Good luck!

Thanks, the first go-round with this deal I had the vent window frames done up and put them to the side for a month or so until I was ready to go with the final assembly. No longer than that was the rubber was already starting to crack and deteriorate, but I can't remember what brand they were now.

didn't have to use any lube, was able to work the rubber into the groove. it is installed correctly, but as pictured above, the rubber still doesn't fit properly. when the glass is closed against the "U" shaped rubber piece, it appears the rubber is too thick and doesn't allow the glass to close fully, without forcing it by hand.
apparently you were fortunate to not have the problem. musta been a pre-Chinese shipment?

have heard of many others with the same problem with the Danchuck kit. just wondering who has used another brand successfully and where did they purchase it.

gman, That other brand is T & N ,called them months ago and was told maybe in a year. I used Soff seal and it's easy to install but is a very poor fit also. Might try Steele Rubber products, been around for decades, wish I'd tried their stuff.

Kinda had the same problem with mine.....I believe they were Danchuk.....After I installed them, i tightly closed the windows and locked them......Left them that way for a while and the rubber formed into place.

*Moved your thread to the Danchuk section.

Restoration World sold me a set of the Danchuk seals that I installed in my other Hardotp. I stabbed my hand trying to get the seals installed. :(

I used Soft Seal in my 150 Wagon and windowed Delivery. Soft Seal get's my vote. :)
