Hi! New member with a question regarding 57 steering. I have a 57 2dr. hdtp that now has a McCaughy's 605 box. Before I installed this box the car had a box that I had rebuilt and converted. I am not happy with either one. Since I am going to shortly redo the entire car, I am debating the use of another 605 type box or a rack and pinion setup.

I will be starting with a bare frame this time and using Heidt's front suspension parts. The car currently has a 93 LT1 engine from a corvette which I will be using probably with the stock corvette exhaust manifolds.

Would be glad to hear from members with experience with either steering system.

Thanks

Hi Den:
What don't you like about the 605?

Welcome to the site. Sounds like you might want to look into the 500/600 steering box that is out there for the tri fives. Everything i`ve read on them they seem to be a lot better than the 605 box.

Steering seems to be jerky and does not seem very responsive. I just wondered if maybe the rack might have a better feel?

Just trying to find a system with better response. Haven't seen much about the CPP box but before I spend the money, I would like to get some kind of comparison of it and the rack & pinion.
