My suggestion would be back half , ladder bars, and cage. Don't think you will ever get a suitable tire in to handle a 502 @ the track. Mine has mt pro's 29X18.5X15 and will light the tires up the entire 1/8 mile. JMO Jim

Assuming you are going to stick with not modifying the rear of the car like you stated...

Somebody will have to speak up if the 55 and 57s are the same but I know I just put 275/55/17 tires on 8" wheels on the back of my car and it is completely full with a finger or less gap all around. These tires are over 29" tall and they fit without rubbing but it was a son-of-a-gun to get them on there with the car lowered.

For drag racing I expect your best bet is a Mickey Thompson 275/60/15 drag radial if you want to be able to drive back and forth to the track. If you are going to trailer it or change tires at the track then one of their 10" slicks might work, you will have to look at the specs (section width) on their website although I wonder if a 29" tall slick will grow too much and rub on the big end. I have seen guys run in the 9's in the 1/4 mile with that drag radial when the car is setup right.

If you want to try a 11.5X15 Hoosier QTP at the track. It fits under stock fenderwell. Use an 8" wide rim and get the BS just right. I using it to run 10's in my 55 2dr post.
