Been looking for a good brake for years.Regretfully I bought a Harbor Freight Straight brake (what was I thinkin) The thing was not precise at all.Almost worthless.
I saw on craigslist a brake. After a long cat and mouse phone tag/no response,I finally got a hold of the person selling it for her boyfriend while he was at work. When I arrived there,50 miles away, I said where is it?She said it was in the back of there pick-up.So, I go and look at this rusted up hunk of rusted metal all in pieces and tell her I am not even interested in the least. She said she was asking $500 on the phone but would take $300.Thats what got me over there in hurry. But when I saw that mess, I turned to walk away. I told her I really wasn't interested. It probably was warped and pieces were missing.
She said she just wanted to get rid of it. So, I said I would give her a $100 for it and if it was warped and I couldn't get the pieces for it I could scrap it and retrieve some of my money back. She was excited about that and helped me load the pieces in my jeep. After getting home cleaned it ,painted it and made some pieces for it including stand and counter weight, I adjusted it and it works fine.

Yeah it's an old work horse. It was used at some factory and has some welding on it. To true it up I had to use shims and realign every thing, but it works pretty good now.A friend of mine gave me an old exercise machine and I used some of the weights for the counter weight. It actually took a lot of work.I guess good things don't come easy.
