Danchuk has a different part number for 55 than 57 transmission cooling lines. Is it reasonable to assume that I should order 57 v8 lines for a 55 with a 327 engine and a 57 powerglide transmission?

Not sure why they have different part numbers when they are the same transmission, unless theres a difference between 6 & 8 powered cars.

JG....Don't know the answer.....Eckler's is parts listing is the same way....One set for the 55/56 and one for the '57......I moved your thread to the Danchuk forum for comment

OK, Thanks! I'm thinking the lines positions/fittings (?) must be a little different on the transmissions because everything else "should" be the same position.....V8 engine, V8 radiator support? Just want to make sure.
I talked Dad into pulling his 55 out of the barn after 15 years (or more) and the temporary trans lines we (I) put on it 30 yrs ago are leaking, so I'm going to buy them instead of bending some to fit. The car had a 3 speed cobbled into it when he got it, (Orig pwrgld) so when the 235 died I put in the 327 out of his rusted 1 owner 68 Impala and a pwrglide from a '57 parts car I had. So far, a fuel pump, points, and a coil has it running out of a bucket. The fuel line and/or sending unit/screen is plugged, so we'll be working on that while waiting for trans lines. Thanks for the help/advice! :)

You are correct. The loop, for lack of a better description, where the lines curve back to connect to the transmission is much larger for the 57 than for 55-56 V-8 powerglide. Where the lines go into the radiator they both look about the same. You need our part number 1550. http://www.danchuk.com/ItemForm.aspx?Search=1550&Item=1550#

Danchuk lists the same V8 Powerglide transmission cooling lines for 1955-56 cars, and another set for 1957 cars.
The assembly manuals show unique part numbers for all three years. The old lines out of my 1956 look more like the 1957 lines than the 1955 lines. I am pretty sure my old lines are original because they look just like the lines in the 1956 assembly manual (http://www.trifive.com/garage/56%20Chevy%20Assembly%20Manual/313-9.gif). Here is a picture of my original 1956 lines next to a new set of 1955 lines:

There is evidence that suggests a change in cooling lines came about early in the 1956 model year. Check out these two pictures. Both these pictures are 1956 cars (note the road draft tube and the exhaust manifold). One picture has the early 1955 style cooling lines and the other has 1956 lines just like my car.

I didn’t want 1955 lines in my ’56 because it is not correct. I am using 1957 lines because they are closer in appearance to the lines my car should have.
I understand that 1956 is the redheaded stepchild, but it shouldn’t be too difficult to reproduce the correct transmission lines for these cars.

Thanks for the pics, they kind of confirm that the 57 lines have a bigger loop/arc at the trans. I just wanted to make sure before ordering. Thanks for the detective work! :shakehands:

Thanks for the detective work! :shakehands: The major difference is the 1955 lines are mounted lower and run under the right rear engine mount, while 1957 lines are located over the mount. Possibly Chevrolet changed the design to route the lines further up to better protect them. I believe either style will fit and work in your car.

Danchuks online order form estimates shipping for two trans lines and a key blank (to Ohio) at $66. I know they are long and UPS isn't free, but is this accurate? :p3:
