Since my wife is pregnant and due in august we have been looking at cars. Found a nice new PT Cruiser, but to get the payments were we to trade the s10 in and sell my '56.
Right now we have a 01 s10 with 3 seats and a 97 camry with 287,000 miles (and no clue how long that will last).
I'm so heart broke about selling the '56..... I don't even know if I am thinking clearly. I know we need a reliable car for our expanding family....

No you are not selling out, many of us had to put off our dream cars until we retired, so if you sell your 56 to help your family, that is exzactly what I would do if needed.
But you must promise to stay anctive member of your website tri5-chevy.com and trifive.com

We all have to make decisions along lifes pathway. Some are easier than others. I`ve owned my 57 since 1978, built it in the early 80`s cheaply, decided to rebuild it the way i really wanted to starting in 1998. Still not finished, mostly due to those hard decisions. Even thought about selling the 57 a few years back and my BETTER HALF talked me out of it. You have to do what you have to do. Terry.

Of course you're a sell out, but it's for a good cause so don't despair!

Well after jerking our chain since saturday and saying the 56 was worth $1500 (ROFLMAO) we left with the truck and the 56. I don't think we will try for awhile.....

Please understand this is my opinion based on my life's experiences. If you haven't -- throw a tonneau cover on the S-10 -- then you have room for the bulky baby stuff. The S-10 will suffice until the kid is 4 years old. By then you may have another on the way. This would make the PT too small and you would be back in the same situation. This would allow you to keep the 56 and take care of your family.

It has a hard tonnue cover, but only 3 seats and there will be 4 of us.

So, I guess it's not worth selling your $1,500 car?! :) Now the decision is much easier, since you can't get enough money for your car to justify selling it, you HAVE to keep it! (The secret to success is to NOT get any more offers!)
Welcome back!

The decision is one that only you can make. I realize that it is a heart breaking situation. I have a 55 and I used to get so disgusted when I could not get more work done on it and I even went through the period when I thought I wanted to sell it. I even asked my then 6 year old son if we should sell it and buy a four wheeler or keep it. At first he was for the four wheeler but on the way home he looked at me and said, Dad lets keep the old car. Now he is in line to receive the car for himself after dad gets to have fun with it. Good luck!

:( i feel your pain as i have 4 kids and still have not gotten my dream trifive but i've always had to do what was best for the family and everytime i get close to getting it more family things come up and yet again i must wait. yes there has been times when i felt i will never owen one but then i remember hey the kids will be growen someday and then i can trade in this minivan for my trifive :D heck i got my 65 ford on a trade and i really didn't want that but man what a steal so i know when the time is right it will come and i'll get my dream car but for now dealing with the things it takes to do the family thing is what i must do. who knows maybe it will be one of my kids that gets my car for me :D thing will always work themselfs out in the end and we all must do what needs to be done even if it is painful:o good luck

Just ask how many people sold there classic car in the past for what ever reason (kids, new house, college, beer money etc...). Most of them will tell you they regretted it the rest of their lives.... However.... if the 56 is not your ideal classic... let someone else have it (don't dare take $1500 for it....cause you will really kick yourself in the butt if you do...). You can always find your ideal car later.....

Really glad you are able to keep your 56........I have sold some that I still kick myself for selling
