Is there anyway I can figure out what my rear end ratio is without pulling the axels and the pumpkin to count gears. I was told once that you could raise the rearend spin the axel and count the turns between it and the rear U joint.
Any ideas would be helpful.

This method is certainly not real accurate, but, if you slowly turn your tire one revolution, and count the turns of the pinion yoke/drive shaft, it will give you a close idea. For example, one turn of the tire vs 3 (exact) turns of the yoke is 3.00 to 1 ratio.. 3 1/2 turns of the yoke would be a 3.50 (to 1) ratio and so forth. In some cases, it might be easier to turn the yoke and watch the tire go one turn.. ether way, count the yoke turns.
Many 9" Fords have a thin metal tag on one of the nuts near the oil-fill plug or on the oposite side.. the tag will have the ratio on it.

Mike,
Thanks for the tip. I understand there could be som inaccuracy, however this will get me on a good start.
I am starting to put my car back together and so many things are needed when ordering a stall converter. I think it was you who suggested a Gear Vendor a few months back. It was easy to install and should be great. Since the body is in the paint shop and I only have an Engine and transmission to play with it will have to wait.
Thanks again for your help.
Cheers,
Gary:)
