I've just figured out my hours for the past 2 weeks. I get to work the snow storms every winter which gives me my 55 parts money. For the past 2 weeks I worked 56 straight time hours, 53 hours at time and a half, and 21 hours of double time. It is a killer when you go over 24 hours straight in a storm. A few times this week I got home and spent about 4 hours here before getting called back in for work again. I felt as though I was just getting to visit at home between work times.
Merry Christmas everyone!!!!

You must be exhausted. A friend of mine and his wife both worked the snow storms, until they had a kid then she scaled back. When the snow fell they worked, but they made a good bit of dough doing it.
Hope you get to relax and enjoy the family for the holidays, Dave. Merry Christmas!

Sounds like you have a double edged sword there. Some extra cash but a lot of work to get it.
Come to SE Texas when you need a winter off. It's been in the 70s the last 3 days, and for the most part dry, low humidity, clear skies, and not too much wind. It's going to cool off for a few days now, hopefully we'll have 2-3 more days like it before New Year's.

Rick, The fellow I replaced at the DPW retired and he heads south every winter. He is down in Texas on the south eastern coast. I think it is in the area of Brownsville. I'm 58 now and hope to retire by the time I hit 66. I've got to be there 10 years before I'm vested. After 15 years I'll get 37% for retirement with what I'll get from social security. I have 2 apartments I rent out and the mortgage will be paid off just before I hit 66.
