Default Another broken tri 5 windshield

But, not mine.
Just had a friend call me about a windshield he was helping another friend put in a 55 Nomad. Gave him the little bit of info he needed. It wasn't fitting well. I told him to be careful. He called back 10 minutes later with a crack down the middle. He said there was a big gap on one side near the top and they couldn't seat it right. He came over with it to check it on my Delivery (since I haven't put my new shield in yet), but obviously they are different.
He did call Autocityclassics earlier to say it didn't look like it was formed right. Now he'll be calling them back. I may have a pro do mine. I hate to see something new end up like that.

If you want to go to the trouble, there is a procedure in the shop manual to check the windshield vs. the windshield opening for fit. It might save someone some grief down the road.

Might be worth doing, especially if you suspect something is wrong as you start the procedure.

The pinchweld on my 55 sedan had some NASTY weld knots on it. I'm surprized the seal worked.
It's now polished smooth, and the sharp edges are gone.

I already have my glass man lined up. I can tackle most anything but front and rear glass. They got the tools and the experience. If they break it, they cry.

Good call TJ !
I had a glass guy put mine in,
he was here for about 20 minutes and made it look easy .
He even fit all the trim because he did'nt want to see any of it damaged.

Now if I had of done it ......... I'd still be sweeping up broken glass this time next year !

BE SURE you have the understanding B4 you call someone to do the job.
Going price to install the ft and rear in my Hemi Belve was $125 per end.[Did the work at my shop.] I supplied the rubber. He did the rest, and used the original rear glass. He nailed me for $300 for the windshield.

I've been VERY fortunate and have not broken one yet.I think that I have done at least a dozen of my own. I learned that when they tell ya ta 'coax' them don't force them, they are right.I think that most people's problem is that they get impatient after messin with one for a long while and resort to forcing. Glass doesn't bend well,,,that's nothing that I can laugh at,,,I feel sorry for the guy-Keith

I replaced the windshield in my '56 myself (with a little help from my teenage son). I don't like paying others to work on my car.

It is extremely satisfying doing a job like this yourself.

Here I have a real pro that does it for $100 if you have it cleaned and ready to go.
