David, the more correct your car is the more desirable it will be to the right buyer. As for the TG, buy one but keep it on the side. They can be a lot of trouble as one posted stated.

You are right the 270 was with standard shift which was what the 2 door the batwings came out of. I am sensitive to being able to restore the car to the original configuration. Love the sound of the solid lifters, cam, etc. and it works well with the powerglide. My question is should I obtain a turboglide to satisfy the original police since I have everything else which was on the original engine before it was "upgraded"? David

Its been my experience that correct date coded '57 Turboglides are very very hard to come by. If you happen across one I would pick it up and set it aside for the correct police>

Well look, you bought the car the way it is now, right? So will someone else! No one will buy your car to put back to stock now. They will buy a stock one to begin with (there are plenty around). The Turboglide is just an albatros around your neck. Drive and enjoy your car and don't worry about a thing.

Your car will be worth the most with the batwing set up installed. Don't try to pass it off as orig. Best advice, satisfy yourself, not what others may think.

As I understand it, the Turboglides also required a special crankshaft on your engine. Apparently the pilot bearing area of the crank was unique to the type of trans you were running. That's why the engine pad indicated trans type...

I would not pass off as original. But I do have everything but the turbo to return to original config. Thank you! David

It is my understanding that the turboglide equipped engines used a different crankshaft which would accept the very large pilot shaft stub on the turboglide torque converter. If your engine came out of a car with a manual transmission, the turboglide torque converter will not fit the crank. The engine must have the correct stamp code for a turboglide, or a different crank.
