Yea,I'm doing a 67 stepside and it was a long bed. I cut the frame down and the bed also .I removed 12 inches from the front of the bed and 8 inches from the rear. I actually had to remove the stakepockets and then re-attach them. I think that is what you are refering to,,,the stakepockets.The holes in the top rail are now filled but if you are refering to removing the 'pockets' that run from the top rail to the bottom of the bed ,,,I would say,,no,,don't remove them they are important supports for the bed and I also think that it would look kinda weird without them. Most guys just fill the holes and that looks clean.-KB
