I found this ad in my area for the following:
"Here is a pair of front disc brakes for a Chevy Nova. Came off a 1976. Complete with calipers, dust shields, spindles & rotors. These brakes are ready to install for that classic car. " ($100) I would like to install disc brakes on my 57' but am not sure how much trouble it would be to install something like this versus purchasing a kit, which I can't really aford right now. Any comments would be appreciated, Don

Bottom line is the parts won't fit your 57. The calipers might work with some kits, but the rest definitely won't.
For the stock spindle, you need to buy an aftermarket caliper bracket. Then you use rotors from a 68-74 Nova, 69 Camaro, 69-72 Chevelle, or 70-72 Monte Carlo. Some brackets use calipers from the same cars, other use a smaller caliper from a 79 up Malibu. The 76 Nova calipers are similar to the calipers above, but likely will have the brake hose port moved or some other difference. Which means they'll probably work, but no guarantee. Aftermarket dropped spindles usually use rotors and calipers from the 79 up Malibu. |

Thanks for the info Rick! I will save your comments just in case I see the right thing pop up. I still might wait until I can afford the kit too.

Hi Don:
Check your mailbox for articles covering the disk conversion the non kit way. Regards Bob

Just to let everone know I have the STOCK spindles with the aftermarket caliper bracket that was on my 55. I purchased Heidts product because I wanted a dropped spindle. If anyone is interested I would sell for a fair price.
