My 56 has a 350 block. Edelbrock Aluminum heads.
The heads have the bolt holes in the front. The PO has what I call a "low" alternator mount on the drivers side. The Vintage Air AC compressor mounts on the passengers side in the "high" position. I'd like to get another mount to bring the alternator up level with the AC pump and make things even. I have a short water pump. The current mounting has 2 bolts which bolt through a cast iron bracket to the head. I've then got the typical "swing arm" slotted adjuster. The alternator sits literally on top of the valve cover. I've looked at many systems on EBAY and in catalogs, and am unsure what to buy. Any suggestions? Chuck

Chuck here is a link to brackets, I bought my A/C from someone else who makes most of the brackets (can't remember) on the market and then modified it to suit my application, good day, Henry.

I've seen those also in East Coast Chevy's catalog. They're made by ??? It's a fellows name.
They appear to be very bulky, and I don't like the look. I was looking more for something like what I have, but with a higher profile. Chuck

The brackets in the link above are "Alan Grove" brackets.
Can you pst a pic of what you have for the a/c bracket ? have a look through the various brackets on this page, maybe one of them will do what you want http://www.hotrodsusa.com/store/bills.html |

Chuck,
I have March brand brackets on my '55. The alternator sits higher than the valve cover. If you like i can post some pics. You can find the style in Summit or Jegs etc... Good Luck! |

![]() Here are some pix of what I have. I'd like just a simple alternator bracket, like the one I have, that will sit the alternator higher to match. Chuck

Chuck,
Here you go. Based on your last comment I think they may be a bit bulkier than your preference. Also, The Alternator does not look much higher then yours. Hope this helps. Good Luck! |

Looks great, Jeff, but that mount looks just about the same level as mine.
IF I had my choice, I'd lower the AC compressor, but that would require rerouting all the AC lines, drilling through the core support, etc. NOT worth the effort. I'm going to study the JEGS and SUMMIT catalogs tonight. Chuck

Take a look at Billet Specilities. They expanded their product line and have one of the largest selections of brackets for just about any mount you could want. I would check your bolt hole "spacing" when ording any new bracket, as that can be a serious issue [I could not use the Billet Specilities brackets on my Dart alu heads because of the bolt hole spacing and went another route].
