I have a 55 chevy Belaire HT project car and also have an opportunity to buy a LS1 engine, and I need to start learning about what is involved with the installation. Can some one get me started and tell me some do's and don'ts?
Thanks, Larry |

I'd start by reading the posts in the "LS Installation Questions and Answers" forum where you posted this question.
Then ask any specific questions you may have. There's a lot of LS1 info here in trifive. When you buy the engine, be sure to get the computer and the wiring that goes with it. Check out the website of Street and Performance and order one of their catalogs. They have done a lot of LS installations and have lots of parts. |

Make sure its an LS1 out of an F-body.
In my book there are too many do's and very few don'ts. Send me a private chat if you want particular's. |

If you're inclined to save a little money and you are a DIY'r, I would suggest that you get not only the wiring harness off the engine but the entire under dash harness as well. Can't be sure but it will take both to be modded to run your engine if you don't want to buy an aftermarket wiring harness which could run anywhere from $700 - $1000, depending on what amenities and who you buy it from. I'm shrinking the factory wiring harness sections for my '05 GTO LS2/T56 6 speed mod into my 57. CNut's suggestion of going to Street and Performance's website will give you immense knowledge to what you are getting into (http://hotrodlane.cc/). Keep in mind that they are expensive and there are cheaper routes, but they are quite knowledgeable and have good stuff. Also, if you are getting the tranny that was originally with the LS1, if it's a manual, you'll want the clutch pedal assembly most likely as the throw out bearing is hydraulic. Keep asking as things come to mind. I was originally going the 383 stroker route before I changed directions. Boy, it's been an adventure and a learning curve for these LS motor's, but in the end, I know that I'll be much happier that I did the switch, if nothing more than much better fuel economy with the built in performance of fuel injection....

Thanks for the responses.
The LS1 that I am looking at is on a 98 Corvette chassis...has a transaxel which I will not be able to use. Will one of the conventional electronic transmissions work with the engine? Also, is there a bolt on kit available so that I could use the Vett disc brakes? Larry |
