Question 56 Trunk Weatherstrip Question

Hmmm.

I'm confused.

When I bought my 56, along with it came new door and trunk weatherstrips, still in the plastic packaging. Don't know who the manufacturer is/was.

A few weeks ago, I replaced both door weatherstrips. Pretty straight forward. The WS had multiple white "pop in" push pins.

The trunk WS still in the packaging did not have the push pins. SO, this morning I was going to remove my old trunk WS and glue the new WS in place.

BUT...started to remove the old trunk WS and it has the same style white push pins as are in the doors.

SO....does the original trunk WS have the push pins? Wonder why my trunk WS does not. Do I have some generic WS?

Interesting, Clint. I did not think of that possibility.

So, all 55-57 trunk lids are all interchangeable?

Wonder why mine was replaced? The car has never taken a shot in the rear, so I wouldn't think it was accident damage.

Also, the car was painted in about 1980, so the lid had to be replaced prior to that.

Lightbulb Because..

"Also, the car was painted in about 1980, so the lid had to be replaced prior to that. "

in 1957, a tree fell on the trunk lid, and it was replaced.
Maybe it's a 56 lid, and the P/O drilled the holes, and used the 57 strip?
Someone suggested that as an "improvement", when I asked about the install on my 55.

ANYTHING is possible on these old girls. Who knows. Anyhow, now that I know this fact, I'm ordering a 57 trunk weatherstrip.

LOTS easier to install with the pop connectors, and I like "easy".

Chuck i`d still use some adhesive in between the pop-in clips too.

Well, I ordered the 57 style WS. Should be here pronto.

Will use adhesive between the pegs, which I did on the door WS.

Thanks for all the input. I'm learning the nuances of these cars slowly.

Cool What a Mess

Chuck I tried to install the WS on my '56 BA - contacted Softseal and was told to install it down and out ???? Called CCI and was told either direction was OK - some members had luck in both directions - NOT me - I Installed it small part down and out and the deck lid wouldn't close - So quick I tried to remove it and reverse the installation - Toooooo late the adhesive set up and what a mess - infrustation I threw the WS away and figured I was having a bad day. After reviewing the process - I decided the next time I'll remove the deck lid - apply the adhesive to both the deck lid and the WS - use wax paper on the seal - temporaraily - apply the WS to the deck lid while removing the wax paper.

I got the 57 WS today. Put it on. It had the POP connectors.

BUT.....not all of the pop in's lined up. Don't know if it was my trunk lid, or the cheapo WS I bought on EBAY.

Anyhow, where the pops didn't line up, I used black adhesive. It's on...looks good. MUCH better than the old junk that was there previously.

Still, I wonder why the pops didn't line up.

Figured that part out, Clint. Same deal on the bottoms of the doors, BUT....

My problem wasn't at the junction point you mention....it was down both sides of the lid. No matter how I tried, the pops were 1-2 inches off in several places. I just removed them and glued the WS in those areas.

Strange, but true.
